Read moreWe arrived at 10:00 AM. We were told by the receptionist, Tânia Silva, that our room was not ready and would not be until 3:00 PM - the normal check-in time. Because other hotels on the islands had provided early check-in when the room was ready, we gave Tânia our contact information and asked her to call us if the room became available before the normal check-in time. We never got a call. When we returned at 2:45 PM there was no one at the desk or on the first floor of the hotel. We then observed that our luggage was stacked near the reception desk, in plain sight, unsecured, and out of the view of any hotel personnel. Definitely a concern. By 3:15 PM there was still no one at the reception desk, so I went looking for assistance and found the receptionist in the service area of the restaurant. We were finally checked-in at 3:30 PM.
The hotel is a very unique place situated within the walls of a castle. Our room was comfortable with a nice view of the pool and ocean. The dinners in the restaurant were well-presented and delicious (we went twice), and our server, Dalila Magina, did a great job of taking care of us. She was friendly, joyful, and professional. The hotel provides a nice breakfast in the morning. The Pousado is centrally located. And, many of the local sites are within walking distance.
I am giving the hotel a “4” because of our experience with the reception. Otherwise, it would...

At the time, I asked if we could get a room with a double bed and in the new section. 3 pm we check in and are put room room on the old side with two twin beds. I walked by the desk at 8 pm when two young ladies were checking in and were given a room on the newer side even though I was told none were available. When I questioned it, they said, "OH, you wouldn't like that room." We'll I would have liked the choice since I was there 12 hrs before them. They next day we came back from hiking and tiny ants were all over our personal bathroom belongings. There were ant traps in the room, so apparently, it was a known problem. We told the front desk, and they said they would have someone come in while we were at dinner. No apologies, and we had to clean up after their mess. Very rude front desk. Never again would...
