A Barrica — Restaurant in Angra do Heroísmo

Let's just first clarify that my boyfriend and I are very respecftul people and as tourists we always try to respect the local culture, speak the local language and be as kind as possible, we are very easy going and normally we don't write negative reviews, but this time we had to. The lunch at this restaurant was an awful experience. The staff was very unpleasant, it felt like they were bothered by customers, they even tried to remove the food from the table while we were eating. Anyways, the main problem was not this, because we normally would have ignored it. The problem was that while we were eating a small group of loud, drunk customers (which seemd to be friends with the staff) entered the restaurant and harassed us. In particular one guy, after he entered the restaurant, started screaming at the top of his lungs, going to other costumers' tables, screaming loudly and mocking us for being italian, then he sat and had lunch, keeping on screaming while drinking more alcohol. Things like that can happen, but the staff should have intervened, instead they didn't do anything to prevent this situation, they were laughing and talking with them, like they were at their home, not caring about the general discomfort that they created. We got so annoyed by this situation that we even walked away before finishing eating because of this people making us feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Other than that, the food is ok, the prices are a little bit high (for Portugal standars) and it's definitely not a vegetarian friendly...

Best service I've ever experienced!

I went here with my family. As a vegan I'm used to only being able to drink in restaurants in the Azores, but Thomas, the waiter who served us told me he understood and went into the kitchen to prepare me something himself. Not only was that so thoughtful, it was the best meal I've had in Portugal! Thomas also spoke excellent English and gave us great advice about how to spend our time on the island. My family were also happy with their food. The restaurant was very reasonably priced for such a prime location. Wonderful...

An amazing experience. The wait staff spoke perfect English. Was very attentive and courteous. Then the food came out... wow! I had the soup and the bruschetta to start with. Could have been my entire meal, however was amazing. Then the Portuguese steak for my main course. Unbelievable! The steak was cooked perfect and the flavor was amazing! I would highly recommend...
