Excellent location on the sea front with so many choices of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Just a 10 minute stroll downhill into Funchal centre and port too. We stayed for a week and loved every minute.
The food we ate at both restaurants on site was delicious and good value. Enjoying cocktails on the rooftop bar was a real treat with fabulous, panoramic views of the ocean. The sushi menu is amazing too! Great breakfast options available by the seafront pool so we didn’t bother with the buffet option.
There’s easy access to the sea, beside the saltwater pool, for a swim and the water was just about warm enough during our October visit. Staff were attentive and happy to bring drinks to the loungers - heaven!
Our junior suite was beautifully appointed and spacious with cleaning and maintenance to a very high standard. Massive beds with huge pillows but these were too soft and feathery for me. Foam alternatives available when requested.
We used room service a couple of times which was plentiful and tasty - delayed when using the app so I would recommend checking they’ve received it with a quick call.
I don’t understand why coffee pods are not replenished each day. It felt miserly when everything else was so lovely. Fresh early-morning coffee is important to me, especially on holiday, so it was irritating that I had to find a shop to buy coffee at a reasonable price on the day of our arrival. Selling coffee for €1 a pod at reception is inappropriate at this standard of hotel. This was a bad management decision that they need to reconsider.
If we were to stay here again, we’d book an ocean view room/suite as our “city view” was an alleyway overlooking other apartment’s balconies and a villa, so not suitable to sit out on. Ants were a problem so we had to keep snacks in sealed containers in the fridge. These niggles wouldn’t put us off staying again though. This is just an honest review.
Thank you to all the staff, especially those behind the scenes who work hard to make this hotel feel modern...
Read moreThird time in Madeira and second time to Next hotel !|This time we had one apartments sleeping four and one hotel room for two .|The apartments are well priced and well kitted out , however you have to be mobile for this apartment as there is no lift and I was thankful we were on the third floor not the sixth floor! There is a handy side entrance to get up to the main road . The only down side to the apartment , some bedrooms have opaque glass with no view and the window opens out to a neighbouring garden so you would have no privacy if you opened it ! |However there was a lovely balcony off the livingroom , although no view it was very peaceful . Very comfortable sofas and great facilities in the kitchen . Even a utility room . |You get one bottle of water , but for a four star hotel it seems reasonable to expect tea and coffee .|The apartment was kept very clean. The staff were so lovely ! The reception staff were very helpful and the pool staff were incredibly nice .|The great highlight for me is the access to the sea for swimming and the access to the town centre.|Lots of lovely restaurants to try round about .|We had a really wonderful holiday . |However I noticed it was a younger clientele and that was ok as there were four in our party in their twenties . However some bold pop art now sits sharply against the boutique feel that I first experienced three years ago and the “ I am sexy and I know it “ chair complete with disco ball made me feel I was no longer the demographic they were hoping to attract. When I had a Quick Look it’s called Young Next on their website now and I would say that answered my question. However a quick trip across the road to the Royal Savoy provided the atmosphere we were looking for . A nice glass of wine overlooking the sea in peace and quite was...
Read moreWe stayed at Next Hotel as a family of 4 for 12 nights in the Ocean view & Ocean suite rooms. I have mixed feelings about our stay in general at Next. For me the true test is if I'd come back to stay again here and unfortunately the answer is 'no'.|We didn't have a bad experience here it just does not meet the standards I expect of a 4 star hotel. Partly due to staff, very mixed attitudes and levels of customer service, its just not consistent. Some staff not even acknowledging a polite hello greeting, one chap in particular handing out towels in the pool area looked blankly at me. Partly also due to standards and levels of service. Breakfast was good & varied but not exceptional at this level. And dont advertise fresh juices when they clearly are not fresh! I dont want to drink high priced cocktails from plastic cups (roof top bar) and expect to go to the bar to order food & drink when at the main pool area, there were plenty of staff that could of taken orders direct from your sun loungers, etc.|The Ocean suite room is palatial, with 3 balconies no less but then it seems practical things like hooks, pictures on the walls and adequate lighting have been neglected.|Our kids found other customers underwear in their room when they checked in, which points to a failure of room service team.|Main pool is tiny in our view but has sea access which was a big bonus when booking. The roof top pool is even smaller, we never saw anyone in it. Its more a thing of vanity than of any practical use.|Next Hotel gets plenty of great reviews so don't be put off by my review that's against the grain of the majority, however, I wouldn't stay here again but gets a 'good' rather than...
