Perched on a hill overlooking Madeira's capital Funchal, the Quinta Jardins do Lago welcomes its guests in a historic building dating back to the 18th century. The five-star boutique hotel is considered one of the most renowned addresses on the island. Once home to famous French & British families as well as the commander of the British army, General Beresford, during the Napoleonic Wars, the Quinta today offers 31 double rooms, 4 historic junior suites & 5 premier suites. For the first half of my stay, I stayed in one of the standard double rooms before moving to the Presidential Suite the last ew nights. All double rooms offer a comfortable king-size bed, a small seating area, a desk, a flat-screen TV, a closet & a furnished terrace with views of the park. The housekeeping team always ensured a spotlessly clean environment with twice daily room cleaning. The Quinta offers a breakfast room & a restaurant in the historic main building. The breakfast offering impresses with a daily changing selection of breads, pastries, cold cuts of sausage & cheese, spreads, cereals, yoghurts, fruits, fruit juices & sparkling wine. In addition to the selection from the buffet, an extensive range of complimentary à la carte dishes is offered, be it English breakfast with fresh salmon, Eggs Royale or deliciously prepared waffles. The service in the breakfast room, the gourmet Beresford Restaurant or the Colombo Bistro by the pool convinces with friendliness, professionalism & openness to personal wishes. The gourmet Beresford restaurant with its historic flair, where the sideboard on display dates from the Napoleon Wars when General Beresford, who the restaurant is named after, lived here, serves an excellent à la carte menu. If you book half board, a five-course menu is offered every evening, with a delicious & excellently prepared selection of Madeirian & international dishes accompanied by a good selection of local wines. The O Visconde Bar serves a wide selection of spirits & cocktails accompanied by live music every evening. From nine o'clock a special discount on all drinks is offered in the form of a happy hour. The historic rooms on the ground floor of the Quinta invite guests to read a book or play billiards & cards during colder or rainy days. The 2.5 hectare park with beautiful botanical gardens & a pond is home to more than 500 different species of plants, including centuries-old trees & numerous tropical plants. Many of the trees on the property were planted in the early 18th century. The well-equipped gym offers the opportunity to do sports in addition to the large, heated pool. A separate room with a sauna & steam bath as well as the jacuzzi provide opportunities for relaxation. The poolside Colombo Bistro is the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing drink, a light lunch or afternoon tea in the open air. The well-kept & partially covered pool area offers the opportunity to swim lengths &, thanks to the numerous loungers, to take a relaxing sunbath on sunny days. The Quinta Jardins do Lago is truly a hidden gem with a personal & excellent service, delicious cuisine & an exclusive ambience in one of the largest, private parks in the...
Read moreIn July we had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago, located on the hill just above the city of Funchal, Madeira. From start to finish, this hotel truly embodies a 5-star experience. Every aspect, from the staff and location to the food and rooms, was absolutely perfect.
Perched on a hill overlooking Funchal, the hotel's location offers stunning views and a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle. The ambiance is serene and inviting, providing a perfect balance of luxury and tranquility.
The staff at Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago are exceptional. They are extremely friendly and go out of their way to ensure that guests have a memorable stay. Whether it's arranging a cab or offering recommendations for restaurants in the city, the staff's attentiveness and eagerness to assist are commendable. Their warm hospitality truly enhances the overall experience.
The hotel is immaculate, with cleanliness maintained to the highest standards in all areas. From the lobby to the rooms and the gardens, every corner of the hotel reflects the meticulous attention to detail that sets this establishment apart.
The gardens are a highlight of the property. They are beautifully landscaped with a variety of plants and flowers, providing a serene and picturesque environment. One charming feature is the hotel's resident tortoise, Colombo, who adds a unique and delightful touch to the experience.
The food at Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago is truly outstanding. The menu features original dishes that highlight the creativity and skill of the culinary team. During our short stay of five days, the menu changed, offering a fresh and exciting dining experience each day. Breakfast was a particular delight, with fresh eggs and other dishes made to order. This attention to culinary detail is one of the many reasons this hotel stands out.
I don’t know why but we got a free upgrade to the Villa with our family of 5, the Villa has space for 8 people and it was very spacious, elegantly furnished, and equipped with all the amenities one could desire. The attention to detail in the decor and comfort of the accommodations is evident, making it easy to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
It's a place I would definitely return to, knowing that an exceptional experience awaits. Didn’t make a lot of pictures about the...
Read moreThere are big luxury modern hotels that have everything you need and even more. You enjoy their amazing interior design, the great variety of food, the comfort of the rooms. However, as you leave them, you don’t feel anything special… and there are small boutique hotels with just few dozens of rooms that conquer your heart with their special atmosphere and individual service, great welcoming staff that help you with everything you need and make your stay unforgettable. Quinta Jardins do Lago is exactly that kind of a hotel. It’s an 18th-century-built elegant estate that used to be residence to French and British families. Surrounded by a gorgeous botanical garden (that itself already deserves to be visited on a tour), this charming hotel is very well maintained, it enjoys a beautiful location on a hill with views over Funchal and the bay. The breakfast is a fantastic experience, we were looking forward to the mornings to enjoy the delicious food in the garden surrounded by flowers and franjipani trees. The staff deserves to be mentioned and complemented as well. And, of course, how can I forget about Colombo?! He is a turtle that was brought to Madeira from the Galapagos around 50 years ago. Colombo is very friendly but looks quite lonely, so please make sure to visit him and feed him some fruits :) We literally fell in love with this venue and can’t wait to come back! P.S. we stayed in 2 other hotels on Madeira: bigger, more expensive and famous, but in our opinion they were not even close to The Quinta Jardins do Lago in terms of service and...
