We traveled as a family with 2 kids aged 2 and almost 5. We only booked this in June and so hadn't put a lot of research into it. We were pleasantly surprised!||||We went self-catering. Having stayed in an apartment in Alvor last year I was betting on space being tight etc. This was quite the opposite! The apartment was one of the most spacious I have ever stayed in. And we had booked a standard apartment. I am only sorry i didn't get any photos..||||There is a separate bedroom with twin beds. We had a cot in there and there was still ample room for the kids to play around here. The wardrobes were very spacious, so could get all the clothes put away, and the suitcases fitted in nicely too! There is a solid door to close here so easy to keep the noise out from the living area. There is separate air-con in this bedroom. ||The living area had 2 couches which could be put side by side to make a double bed. I was concerned that once we had done this, space would be tight, so we would end up dismantling each morning. But no need! There was so much space.. we could leave the beds together and the kids have a pile of space to play around. There is a tv in this room. ||There is a table with 4 chairs for eating. The kitchen really is fully stocked. All utensils and crockery, pots/pans you would need. A microwave. And a fully sized fridge! with a little freezer box. And a decent kettle. ||There is another wardrobe in the hall area for keeping more clothes. And a brush/mop if you feel the need to brush up after meals (which is useful with small kids). ||The bathroom was great - bath with shower head, bidet, loo, and sink. But the best thing is that the water pressure was the best I have ever experienced, and ample hot water too! It was so relaxing to have a decent shower at the end of the day when the kids were in bed - ha! More than enough towels, which were changed daily. ||The balcony was also spacious with 2 decent chairs and a little table. We could park both buggies out here and still have plenty of space. ALthough we booked a standard room we managed to have both a view of the swimming pool, as well as the beautiful marina. ||You can get towels to use at the pool from the spa reception. These were free, and you could change them daily. The pool area was decent, with a kiddies pool and a sloping bigger pool. We did find the tiles that are actually in the pool, quite slippy. I slipped once and my little girl slipped every time she walked into the water. She became afraid after a few times.. it made no difference whether she was in her bare feet or wearing pool shoes. While child friendly, there aren't any activities or areas targeted at kids. ||The location is fabulous. Just a few mins walk from restaurants around the corner at the marina. Literally 10 min walk to the most beautiful beach (and we were pushing two buggies and gear etc), and about 15 mins over the bridge to the town. ||There is a supermercado up behind the apartments that is absolutely huge! You can get absolutely everything you need here. ||The staff in the hotel were really really lovely. And the entire place was sparkling clean.||||I would recommend The Marina Club to any type of traveler. There were families of all ages. And Lagos... it is just beautiful. This is my 4th time to various places in the Algarve.. Lagos is by far my...
Read moreWe booked a three bedroomed apartment directly with Marina Club Resort in Block C. We arrived at midday but check in wasn't until 4pm so we left our luggage and returned at 3.30pm and were provided access to our apartment. Our booking stated a second floor room but we were actually provided with a ground floor apartment. Although the apartment (C009) was a little more in the shade than the higher floors and had less of a view, it was lovely and large and spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean and provided direct access to the pool and sunbed area, which was nice. Housekeeping were great and it was lovely to come back to freshly made beds every day. We left a tip each day but they didn't take it until we left a note highlighting it was for them :-) The aircon was effective. The reception staff were very helpful for the limited contact we had with them, and they even supplied a complementary bottle of fizz for my sons birthday which was a lovely surprise. The pool was nice with a shallow end and deep area but it was very chilly as other reviewers have said. I enjoyed a swim every morning before breakfast - which can only be described as "bracing"! Although it wasn't really an issue for me I could see others really struggled with the water temperature at various points in the day - especially those with small children. There were plenty of sunbeds at this time of the year and even though there were notes asking people not to "reserve" the beds with towels, there were the regular early morning sunbed grabbers for the sunbeds with an umbrella. I didn't see any management of this whilst we were there. It didn't affect us and as a family of four adults we never struggled to get a sunbed when we needed one no matter what time of the day it was. Towels could be collected and deposited at the entrance to the spa. We didn't use the breakfast facilities or the bar as went to the marina or town most nights for brunch or dinner. The only minor issue we had was the Wi-Fi connection. The signal was weak and regularly dropped out. Such a nice resort really should be able to provide stable Wi-Fi for it's guests. We also had to deal with a couple of large bugs which got into our apartment (because of its location on the ground floor!) but it wasn't a massive issue. The complex is in a good location with the marina and facilities directly outside, a well stocked supermarket 10 minute walk away and the old town centre a 20 minute walk away which had some great shops and restaurants. There are some building works not too far away from the complex but we didn't have any issues with noise or disruption whilst we were there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this complex. The facilities and...
Read moreWe're just back from a really enjoyable stay at the Marina Club Lagos; our second time. We (2 adults and 2 seven year old children) stayed in a one bed apartment in the Suite Hotel part of the development.
Room - had everything we needed. The double bed in the bedroom and two sofa beds in the living room were all comfortable. The sofa beds were 2 meters long and were open on both sides which made them feel like proper single beds when sleeping on them. The kitchenette has a full sized fridge with a small freezer section, hobs, a microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker and plenty of utensils - would be handy to have a small oven. Bathroom was nice. Towels were changed regularly (plus you can drop into the spa reception to get free towels for the pool!!!).
Pool area was really nice. It's got a splash pool for toddlers. The main pool has a shallow end that takes up around a third of the pool. It gently goes to about 1 metre (3 foot) deep, then a drop to a short section at 1.2m deep and then 1.8m deep. The pool could benefit from some depth markings, or lines, within the pool as the depth markings are on the surface outside the pool. The were plenty of loungers available. And I always found it a relaxing place to be - thankfully no music, just the sounds of other guests and splashing of water.
Food options were fine. We ate breakfast at the hotel for a few days and had lunch at the restaurant a few times. There's loads of choice for restaurants in Lagos, at the town, at the marina and at the beaches.
Service was generally very good. Reception was always efficient, gave good advice and were very friendly. The spa staff were very friendly when we were getting the pool towels. Housekeeping staff were good. The restaurant service was a little hit and miss depending on the server - they accused us of not paying for a previous day's breakfast which was pretty irritating and took time to sort out.
Any tips? Pingo supermarket is 5 minutes walk away (adult pace) and has everything. Bahia Beach bar on Meia Praia Beach was...
