Beware the Uber delivery On Saturday I ordered 3 fish and chips for take-away. I was informed that I must use Uber to order the meals. As I am only 6 minutes away from the marina (on the Funchal behind the Cachoa restaurant), I was not too happy with this, but I agreed. I contacted Uber eats at 5.45 and was given a delivery time of between 6.15 and 6.30. I was not given the option to share a delivery and was notified later that the food would be delivered after a second delivery that was en-route. The satnav indicated that the delivery was picked up at about 6.05. The delivery to the other customer seemed to take ages and the Uber driver set off again at 6.24. I then noticed that he was taking the back roads. There was no number to phone and all I could do was wait for the Uber driver to contact me once he realised that he was lost. He did so at 6.35. I directed him back but the satnav was slow and I could not see exactly where he was. At 6.45 he called to say he was again lost. I could see he was only 500 meters away so told him to stay where he was and I went to collect the food. He was pleasant and tried to complain that it was the satnav that sent him in the wrong direction. I took the food and we sat down to eat at 6.50. The packaging was only paper or cardboard and so the peas were stone cold. The chips were luke warm, damp and limp from the condensation in the paper based container. The fish was exactly the same. There was no foil to retain the heat. After paying 45 euros for fish and chips plus a delivery charge I was nonetheless unhappy and angry. I submitted a complaint on line to Portofinos and Uber but after 72 hours I still have had no reply from either. Maybe - this review will prompt them. I had also pre-paid a tip (thinking how could they possibly get a 6 minute journey wrong). We have eaten many times at Portofinos and always thought the food and service were excellent. Maybe they should review their partnership...
Read moreI have been in Portugal for 2 months on holiday with my family and had not experienced one iota of racism or uncomfortness such racism until I arrived at Portofinos. I arrive with my family of 4 and wait in line at 7:15pm. The host turns 2 gentlemen in front of me around (who are of African decent) because he said they didn't have a reservation. Our turn in line now and the host asks if we have reservations, I say no and he turns us around. My 17 year old daughter goes online and makes reservations for 4 at 7:45pm. We walk back to Portofinos and wait for the hostess as he is with an English man who is over 1.5hrs late for his reservations and tells him don't worry about it and takes care of him without any issues.
My turn in line and I tell the host I have reservations at 7:45pm and then he smirks and says, you made it online, then you will have to sit outside." Keep in mind there isn't anyone sitting outside because it's 20 degrees celcius and very windy. I say to the the host that No one is sitting outside and you want me to sit outside with my 6 year old, my wife and daughter when No one is outside and we have reservations. He then starts rambling about how he doesn't like the system and I turn around and walk off with my family. The host immediately cancels my legit reservations and begins smiling. Please don't misinterpret my post because my family and I are not angry Black Americans, we are very cultured and traveled the world and know when an imbecile is being rude for no reason in a half empty restaurant compared to treating all guests the same.
My family and I are Americans who are Black and we have been to many small local restaurants and major well known restaurants that are also high end and never experienced such poor service or lack of professionalism as I have at Portofinos from...
Read moreI would not recommend going there - if it would be possible I would give zero stars! First they wanted to send us away because we didn’t have a reservation even though many tables were free. After asking whether we can sit outside they let us stay (the Terrass was almost empty). We waited almost 2 hours for our food. As a starter we ordered scallops - we got 3 Tiny little scallops in something like curry sauce with Chorizo (??). The pasta was very overcooked, the calamari had the consistency of rubber. All waiters didn’t know a thing and always had to rush inside to ask whenever we wanted to order something or had a question. For dessert we got a tiramisu and panna cotta. The panna cotta was fine but the tiramisu was covered in (definitely not self made) chocolate sauce (why??). When we got the bill we politely mentioned our very long wait and the overcooked pasta but the owner reacted in a very rude manner and told us to come back in winter since then it’s less crowded and also that without reservation we have no right to complain at all. He started a fight with us which we ended by leaving the place. We never had a situation like this in...
