A pretty big disappointment even knowing it is a tourist spot with pretty much 100% Brits. We were prepared for that, and just wanted a different breakfast. Came here on a recommendation for full English.
Service was truly the lowlight. Servers were not unfriendly exactly, but live up to the Lazy Jack name. Incredibly slow service even at half-capacity what looks like full staffing. We had to flag and seek out a server multiple times. They seemed slightly annoyed to be asked for anything and the bill took so long we considered walking out.
Breakfast took forever to arrive and I can't figure out why. Half of it was cold. It wasn't just cooled from being warmed up and sitting out; it was actually uncooked. The beans were cold on the inside and lukewarm on the outside, for example. Toast was obviously cooled off. Hashbrowns were cold inside as well. Sausages were fine. I forgot that Brits don't do real streaky bacon like Americans, just that floppy ham stuff. The German ham dish was... mediocre, at best.
I will give them credit for perfectly done fried eggs. Not a hint of white goo! Impressive and the reason this place gets an extra star. And they understand good tea.
Breakfast portion was TINY for the price and service level, but I suppose you are paying more for the marina view than anything else. I don't really know what the big deal is about that but people like it, I guess. A grown adult man may not find it filling enough, otherwise it was fine, just not justifiable price-wise.
If you're not picky about portions and quality and are just craving typical English food, this could be for you. Otherwise, there are better restaurants...
Read moreLazy Jacks is THE place on the marina when meeting friends… everyone gravitates here from locals to the large ex pat community to tourists … it has a buzzing atmosphere and live music most nights.
However, the food offering leaves a lot to be desired … most of it tastes as though it is from a packet or tin, I.e. For breakfast my wife ordered poached eggs and avocado on muffin (as the smoked haddock that drew my wife in advertised on the outside menu was apparently no longer available as part of the current menu) .. the ‘avocado’ turned out to be guacamole… the type that comes in a tub.. and the poached eggs tasted very strongly of too much vinegar (presumably put in the water to keep the whites together). I had the full English breakfast which I must say was perfectly edible but certainly not the best I have had on the Marina, so kinda average I guess.
The following evening I had a burger which was served with crinkle cut frozen chips. The burger was very dry and not juicy at all.
I feel as though the management realise they have a captive clientele and are not too bothered about the quality of their food. All in all this is a buzzy and busy place to meet for drinks before venturing out for the evening … stay here if you like snacks and just digestible food but if it’s finer dining you require then seek other restaurants on the marina or in Lagos town (a short walk away).
As for service it is very slow .. especially when busy …. Some waiting staff are a delight and others, whilst trying to appear nice are actually passive aggressive with a couldn’t really care...

My chicken burger was completely RAW! (As shown in picture.)
I went up to show the British lady and she took it back in to the kitchen asking if I wanted another. I said yes. Wish I hadn't now!
I waited for another burger for quite some time, a different younger waitress brought it out and passively aggressivly put the plate infront of me without any apology for the raw chicken or long wait. She looked angry like it was my fault!
It was a much thinner piece of meat this time (as shown in picture) the batter overcooked and burnt. At this point I was so hungry I just ate it, at least the chicken was cooked this time I guess!
The oil was obviously far too hot so burning the outside and not cooking the middle properly. Not rocket science, just a lack of care and attention from the 'chef'.
When the bill came it was a different waiter again, they had charged me fully without even a offer of a discount. Bear in mind I've just eaten raw chicken and had to wait ages for a second burger that was smaller and overdone..!
When I asked him about it he said the best they could do was not charge for the drinks (1 beer, 1 water, 1 coke) I begrudgingly agreed as at this point we all just wanted to leave.
If only the owner had have come out with the new burger, apologised and said it's on the house, or at least half price I wouldn't be writing this. It's a review I really didn't want to write, but feel it had to be said.
Mistakes happen its how you deal with them that...
