RockSchoolHostel — Hotel in Lagos

Completely false information and fake reviews. See the 5 start reviews and they all note same things, clearly written by the same person. One way to describe the stay is that it would be similar to having a sleep over with 22 random people in a giant living room. They advertise small dorm rooms however the common room and beds are separated by a partial height wall with about a 2m gap at the top and sides. There are no dorms at all, just a corridor with 22 beds in different openings. The girls dorm simply has a curtain they can pull across, I can only imagine how shocked they would be expecting a private and safe location. The lights stay on all night and you can hear a zipper from the other end of the room. Older men are living here full time which creates extremely weird vibes. There was also no one working there when we arrived, they just text you the code and you let yourself in. This place is very loud, not social, not safe and very bright all night. Please past the fake 5 star reviews and read the lower ratings, this place is appauling.

Edit: I see the owner often replies to say that bad reviewers were bad, asked to leave or didn't read the description so to be clear. We have had zero contact with owner or anyone at this hostel, have been quiet, haven't requested any kind of refund. In listing they clearly state small dorms but there are no walls which makes one giant dorm. They say it is quiet with sound proofing, there is no wall or door separating the common room from the beds, there is a curtain on each bed which leaks plenty of light and does nothing to stop light. Empezaré por lo bueno. Ubicación céntrica. Toallas incluidas en el precio (puntazo). Decoración original. Cama cómoda. Posibilidad de guardar la maleta en recepción hasta que la habitación esté lista.

Me pasé por el hostal por la mañana (la habitación aún no estaba lista - normal) y todo fue perfecto hasta que volví sobre las 19h. Entro y me encuentro con la recepción vacía. Esperé unos minutos pero nadie apareció. Al estar de turismo y no querer desperdiciar las horas de luz decidí mandar un mensaje al hostal donde decía que por favor pusieran mi mochila sobre la cama de mi cuarto. El recepcionista me contestó cuando ya había salido del hostal para decirme que esperara, que estaba en el hostal. Retrocedí unos metros y me quedé en recepción unos 5 minutos más. Al ver que nadie aparecía volví a mandar otro mensaje recalcando lo mismo que en el anterior y la contestación fue un "OK". Al volver al hostal por la noche pregunté al recepcionista (quien en ese momento estaba hablando con una chica) si necesitaba mi documento ya que no habíamos tenido la oportunidad de hacer el check-in y me dijo que no porque yo ya había completado un formulario online (fantástico). Obviando el hecho de que no me había dado ninguna información sobre el hostal todo bien. Cuando corrí la cortina de mi cama no vi mi mochila, donde supuestamente debía estar. Bueno, no pasa nada. Fui a recepción y el recepcionista me dijo que la habían dejado en el armario que corresponde a mi cama. Al volver, me di cuenta de que efectivamente había un armario; no obstante, después de abrirlo tampoco vi la mochila. Obviamente, tuve que volver a recepción. Le pedí "por favor" que esta vez me acompañara. Ir hasta mi cama era literalmente una caminata de unos 5 segundos. Sin embargo, el recepcionista no se tomó nada bien el hecho de que interrumpiera la conversación que estaba teniendo con una chica (puedo asegurar que no era por trabajo) e iba refunfuñando durante el trayecto. Sacó un baúl con ruedas de debajo de la litera y ahí estaba mi mochila.

En ningún momento se me había informado de la existencia del mismo cosa que se podría haber hecho en el "check-in" Se me había dicho que la mochila estaba en un armario y eso obviamente no lo era. Al haber vuelto yo a una hora bastante tardía y al haber poca luz en la habitación no quería molestar a nadie. Es por eso que no hice una investigación por mi mismo.

Además, algo que me chocó de la situación es que el trabajador me dijera "this is not my job" y "you are not asking things politely." Me lo dice a mi que soy un cliente. Desde mi punto de vista, que me dijera estas cosas son razón más que suficiente para poner un 0 de valoración. Sin embargo, estoy escribiendo una valoración honesta y a pesar de que la atención de este trabajador de origen indio/pakistaní (sin ánimos de ofender) dejó mucho que desear el hostal en sí está bien.

Volviendo a lo anterior, cuando volví a recepción por segunda vez le dije que POR FAVOR me acompañara con lo cual lo de que no fui "polite" el chaval se lo sacó de la manga. Segundo, cuando un cliente de un establecimiento en el cual tú estás trabajando tiene un problema o una duda es justamente TU trabajo tratar de ayudarle porque te están pagando por ello. De la misma forma, es TU trabajo estar en tu puesto de trabajo y no dejar la recepción desatendida ;) Como persona que ha trabajado en hoteles de 4 estrellas durante bastantes años me parece bastante inverosímil la reacción que tuvo el recepcionista por algo tan simple. En conclusión, el chaval me transmitió poca motivación y muy pocas ganas de trabajar. Quien no fue educado fue el conmigo, no yo con él.

Ya para finalizar mi consejo para esta persona que es que recapacite y que cambie su actitud de cara a futuros clientes para no perjudicar la imagen del hostal.

I was very disappointed with this hostel. During my stay, the communal living area was treated like a dormitory — I personally saw two guests sleeping on the sofa in the living room, which made the space unusable and felt unsafe. When I raised concerns, a staff member appeared unconcerned and told me those guests would “come back in a few weeks” and continue to stay in that area.

The hostel’s cleanliness and management standards were poor: no AC in their rooms, no kitchen - just a filthy microwave and an unusable fridge with uncooked chicken + other mould stuff inside the fridge, crocoaches everywhere at the hostel. There isn't even a door to the dorms?!? No AC inside the rooms - the listing is also very misleading!

At night, the hostel is not locked; the main door was left open, and the password to "unlock the door" was written on the wall where anyone coming from outside the street could see and enter the unlocked main door to access the hostel.

I would not recommend this hostel to solo travellers or anyone who expects basic cleanliness, privacy or competent management. Booking.com should review this property’s suitability to remain listed. If you care about safety and standards, avoid this place.
