LabHostel — Hotel in Nazaré

I went to Nazaré last week and all the rooms and bed spaces in the hostels were booked except for one bed in the female dorm. When I told the owner that I am a transgender woman and that I would like to stay there, he told me that he'd have to check with the four other women staying in that room since they paid extra to stay with only women and if one of them said no I wouldn't be able to stay there. To begin with it's really problematic that women have to pay extra in order to be in dorms without men. But to get along with the story, I really didn't want any drama, I just wanted a place to sleep, and had there been space in the mixed dorm I would have gone along with it, but when he said that the four women weren't there and I'd have to wait for their decisions, I realized how humiliating and unacceptable the situation was - So, I would have to wait for four women, complete strangers, to get back, perhaps at separate times, perhaps not until midnight, and then let them scan me up and down to see if I was "woman enough" according to their standards - instead of the owner just accepting that I'm a trans woman and allowing me to stay there and understanding that if anyone had a problem with that they'd be the ones discriminating and that discrimination is unacceptable. I live my life 24/7 as a trans woman in this society and am subjected to male violence and overt sexual harassment every day of this life (yes, also several times on the beach in Nazaré during my 24 hour stay), and if anyone is in need of staying somewhere away from men it is me. I tried to tell the owner this, but he would not listen. He said "it's not my problem", and I answered "well, since you're the owner and you're refusing me from staying here it is your problem and would you please listen to me". He wouldn't, and I almost started crying. Finally I had had enough and told him I was leaving and that I would write a bad review (which I am doing now), and then he got very angry and said good luck with your transition and made a gesture simulating really big breasts and then said "you know what, even if all the girls in the room say it's okay for you to stay there, I'll say no to you". I left, went to the square and broke down crying. Luckily I had met some people on the bus to Nazaré, one of which's father lives there and he helped me to find a room elsewhere for myself which wasn't too costly.

so many bad things happen when i come to this hostel ||1, firstly ,they put me underground, have some typical bad smell of the underground, so i ask the frontdesk lady that if i can change the room to upper floor, ||2,after i come to one upper bed in upper floor, i find there is no power supply in upper bed , the problem is all the room door has no lock, if i charge my iphone at the ground ,it will be possibly stolen in the night when i sleep. i can't lose my phone cause all my data in it , and it worth more than 1000 euros||3, i ask the frontdesk again if i can choose the lower bed, the guy of frontdesk is totally angry , he say "i joke with him , " why i come all the way to nazare to joke ? then say " you pay 20 euro for hostel ,how good environment i want?" ,so 20 euro should be underground with bad smell ? should be unsafe witch i might lose my iphone? then i cool down ,don't say nothing, come upper floor to my room , and thinking don't charge phone is fine , it's only one night.||4, then the most bad thing happen , the frontdesk guy come up again , using his finger to point at me, to say this angryly and loudly ,"don't joke with me ,it's my hotel ,don't joke with me! you can't charge your phone ,is your problem ,it's not the hostel problem ,if you don't want to stay just go away ," i thought this issue is already over, but seems he never want to stop ,if it's goes too far , i might be not safe, so i say i will leave your hostel ,please give my money back , then he say he will charge 5 euro for i have take the shower.||5,i don't agree at all , then i call the police to solve the problem, the police help me find my money back ,||if you want to make your trip a total disaster , then choose this hostel , then you will be totally angry ,and ruin your holiday, don't choose this hostel ,they attitude is so...

Lab Hostel is a new or near new compact hostel located very near the beach in Nazare. I walked from the Rede Expressos bus stop through town with a wheeled luggage to the hostel. The hostel is modern & very clean (chlorine odor in room). My double room with private bath was on the top floor built into the attic. The bathroom is compact. I'm only 5'7" & it was quite tight in the shower height wise due to the slope of the roof. There are 2 roof top type windows for ventilation, which cannot be used if it is raining; however, the room does have an air conditioner. Breakfast is basic consisting of bread & slices of cheese & ham. The kitchen area cannot be utilized by guests. Note the local restaurants do not open for dinner until 8 pm! If you need to grab some groceries be sure to checkout the Mercado Municipal de Nazare up by the bus stop. Good place to pickup fresh produce, baked items & fresh meat/fish.
