One thing to note is about the opening time for this restaurant, because at the time of our meal there wasnt any info about it. They open for lunch and dinner. We came for a late lunch, however they stopped accepting guests at 5.30pm.
They had a break from 5.30-6.30pm, then they started serving dinner at 7pm. We were too late for lunch, so we went around the city, take the gondola to get a birdview of Praia De Nazaré then came to this place at 7.30pm. We instantly get a seat, which is nice because at 8pm the line starts to be insanely long.
We had the cataplan with monkfish. It was the seafood stew with rice inside it. We finished it down to the last drops! It is way better than any seafood stew we had in porto. You can really taste the herbs, the freshness of the fish and the monkfish itself is really soft, really good cut, without annoying fish bones.
The cataplan was marked for 2 and I think the portion was good. We saw other tables are ordering the seafood boat, they rang the bell every time an order came. I would suggest ordering it if you are at least a party of 3 because the portion is massive!
We pair the meal with a nice green wine call Avelada. I would rate the food 5 star if the dessert (choc mousse) was not too sweet.
However, the service and the atmosphere are great, the place itself is just right on the beachside street, and everyone who came to our table is knowledgeable and speak good English. This place is highly...
Read moreThe food was good however the restaurant as a whole left a horrible impression upon us. My husband and I were trying to decide where we wanted to eat dinner and were looking at the various outdoor menus in the area. Everyone was warm and welcoming at the other restaurants but my husband found something that caught his eye on the menu for Restaurante O Casalinho. It became obvious that the waiters didn’t want to engage with us despite our best attempts to speak the little Portuguese we know. They could not have been more unfriendly. They would plop a menu on the table and walk away without a word. After we ordered and received our food I noticed that we were missing one of the salads we had ordered. I asked the waiter if it was coming and he said for me to ‘share my husbands salad’. Ok fine, no big deal. But throughout the night, with every exchange we felt more and more unwelcome. I would watch the waiters laugh and joke with the other customers but when he came to us- no smile, nothing. I had wished we went to one of the other more welcoming...

Extensive menu offered in all major European languages with the house special being a table 'boat' filled with mixed seafood.
We opted to start with Oysters (paid by weight and charged at €13 for four) followed by Octopus and Potato roasted in Olive Oil and Peeled Prawns on Migas (like a bread pudding with lots of garlic).
While we waited be were served (not on request but chargeable if eaten) a half loaf of home made rustic garlic bread which was delicious.
Only criticism is limited wine choice but at €8/bottle of Tejo Blanco we weren't complaining.
Service was attentive without being overbearing and never rushed so recommended as a safe option in a town of many seafood...
