This is a tough review because I actually liked the place. We stayed in a front room with a balcony. That balcony really made the place. It was great! ||Pros:|1. Location is fantastic. 20 meters to the beach. 100 meters to some of the best food I have had all year. |2. I will put in a plug for the breakfast. Great Portuguese rolls (apparently call "bread of water"), eggs, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt and cereal. It is not fancy or really nice by any means but was a perfect low key way to start the day.|3. The people who run the place are very nice. They took care of a few special request for me and sorted transport.||Cons:|1. There is no A/C in the rooms. So if you can't live without a cold room at night, try some place else|2. There is a night club called Bia Bia one building over and it is open all night til 6-6:30am. People are out side all night and the music can be heard when the door to the balcony is open. Two options close the door or join the party ;). We slept fine for the 6 nights we were there|3. The place is furnished in a utilitarian style. Everything you need but nothing fancy. Think older IKEA furniture. So if you want to stay in the room all day to enjoy the furniture, this is not for you. ||So a few recommendations:|1. If you need a room in a great location, with a great porch/view to unwind a bit, and do not mind it being a little rough around the edges and a little noise, this is a great place|2. If you need beach gear (chairs and such) you can rent it from the people on the beach. There is a place right below the hotel down the stairs to the beach. Go into the bathroom/shower facility and ask to rent chairs |3. There are Cabana people who will rent you a cabana for the day for 6 euro. Highly recommended. You can ask for help at the front desk and they will call someone who will come and escort you to one.|4. There is a super market a couple blocks down by called Umlar. Great place to pick up beer, wine water and snacks.|There is also another shop directly behind the hotel with a little less of a selection but great is you just want a bottle of water. Follow the alley way to either side of the hotel and you...
Read moreThe Cubata is a small hotel on the floors above a café bar, right on the sea-front in Nazaré. It’s very conveniently situated just below the 110 metre cliff which dominates the north end of town and a few steps away from the lower station of the funicular which climbs it up to Sítio - the upper town with its unforgettable panoramic views across the beach and town below.||||It seems a laid-back place, energetically directed by a lady who speaks good English and appears very firmly in charge of its running. Check-in was advertised as being 15.00 but as we arrived early, our bags were swiftly locked away until our room was ready: we returned at 14.00, ordered a snack and some drinks and were given the key to our room, which was on the first floor (no lift). The room was standard fare for this type of establishment, yet it had the advantage of a balcony with table and chairs and a wonderful sea view. Considering we were paying below 50 euros per night with breakfast, this must be considered as very good value. We imagine, nevertheless that rooms, other than on the front of the building, would have only a narrow alley to look down upon and no balcony. || ||There were only two down-sides for us, the hard bed and the late breakfast - the earliest possible was 08.30. Of course I quite understand that for many this might seem early enough, but with Portuguese time being an hour behind Spanish time and the sun not knowing the difference, we were getting very hungry by then. However having said that, there was a reasonable choice of food available including scrambled eggs. Oddly enough although we were told the hotel was full, we never saw any other guests down for breakfast or for that matter anywhere else in the property. Perhaps we just missed...
Read moreMy title says it all. Across the street from the ocean, and at the end of the beach. Great location to just relax. Get a room in front with balcony and the sea view as it's worth the extra few buck.||||We first lodged here over ten years ago after reading a Rick Steves review. Would stay here again upon a return visit. Nazare has changed quite a bit in those intervening 10 years, but we will still return as we like the place. This is not a place to be hurried. ||||Staff nice. Cash payment up front not nice. Get a credit card machine as this is 2015.||Rooms kept clean. Adequate linens. Cuba, get some brighter lightbulbs as our room was dark. (As it was 10 years prior)||||Funky ambiance with some funny locals thrown in for laughs. Bar on bottom floor. ||||We've always been there in late October or early November, and this time was no different. Some tour groups during the day, but it gets pretty quite in the evening.||||Nazare is a fishing town, so you'll be in heaven if you like seafood. We had some great grilled fish.||||Saddened that the people with the shop selling barbecued chicken had retired. On previous stays we'd get a chicken and enjoy it on our balcony or on the seawall across the street from the Cubata.||||Hired a taxi for a side trip to Alcobaca. Ask at the front desk, as I had no luck trying to find a cab company for Nazare via Google. I think there are also city type busses that make the trip, although I could be wrong regarding busses on the weekend days.||||We had a fine time recharging our batteries for a couple of days and our kids loved the place. Surf was up with some fantastic wave action.||||Cubata, thanks much for still...
