The staff, with exceptions, is very friendly and accommodating. I think they have too many restrictive rules, like using the spa and pool for an hour with prior reservation, wearing a swimming cap, etc. Although the hotel was half-empty, we got a room in the sky that doesn't look at the city center but at some construction site behind the hotel, where they were demolishing a building all day and it is not recommended to open the window, either because of the noise or the dust. Even though we had reserved funds for our accommodation on the card, they did not want to let me in the room and demanded that I pay for the stay in advance, which is unprecedented stupidity. (funds were reserved on my wife's card, which was already in Porto a few days before me) and I waited for her to check out from another hotel and arrive. Very bad reception of guests. The breakfast is really excellent and I recommend it. The hotel is very close to the center of events, amenities and the metro station, and those things, as well as the view from the spa and the gym, are the only recommendation for this accommodation. The whole hotel is in the fashion of the film industry, so the rooms are also named by people who have a bigger role in it, which is unique. The rooms were renovated a long time ago, they have old furniture, a landline phone from the last century that has already turned yellow, the carpets in the corridors are stained and the cleanliness is not at an enviable level. The beds are very comfortable, as are the pillows. I got the impression that of all the Gale Group hotels advertised on the intro channel, which look fantastic to say the least, this one is unjustifiably given the least attention. A hotel with such predispositions would have to seriously deal with this item. Luckily, we came to see Porto, so we didn't spend much time in the hotel.

ATTENTION! BEDBUG! Bedbug! Please read! This is our story : We checked in to the Vila Galé Porto . At the first night we discovered that the air conditioner and TV in our room were not working, it was damn cold that night in the room. Next day we were out all day , when we arrived at the hotel late at night, around 23:30, we changed our room. At the next morning, we noticed red marks on the bedsheet . We thought maybe a pimple has burst or something. The following day the situation became clearer: We found a live bedbug on the bed ( video) , along with a larger dead one near the eggs at the back of the bed (pic). We immediately let the staff know, who inspected the room and moved us to another one. When we asked about receiving documentation acknowledging the presence of bedbugs, the staff told us that no such document could be provided. They also told us that it’s just one room and maybe we brought it. But we were there just for two nights and for two night can not be so much bedbugs in a room. Also when you read the reviews from last month you see that some one else wrote that they found bed bugs as well! So be careful! After speaking with it was agreed that we would email them to describe the incident, and they would confirm the details in response. Yet , its been 2 or 3 days without response. Our bodies and hand are full of bed bug bites and they itches very much . We spend more than 200 euros for washing our clothes, spraying them against bed bugs and medicine. And yet no response from Hotel! Such a bad experience!

It started off quite bad: Telephone conversations with the spa to get the details on the massage options, how to redeem a voucher etc. Nevertheless the lady made an effort in the end and we got all we needed. Once we arrived at the reception - we had to discuss it alllll over. This is a Portugal-disease. There is no communication, no proper handover and no proactive costumer-friendly approach. Nevermind.. we got it sorted somehow and went to the spa. The spa is beautifully located on the 19th floor, overseeing Porto. We sat, relaxed and waited for our turn for the couples massage. Our 2 therapist were really attentive, friendly, knowledgable and caring. Probably one of the top 3 massages I got in Portugal. Congrats! After the massage we enjoyed the pool area a little longer.. one thing which should highly be re-considered and discussed in Portugal: usage of "toucas" in the pools. Not any other single country forces you to use such thing in outdoor, indoor or infinity pools - and believe me - I travel a LOT and been to sooo many places.. The "hygienic" aspect is just an excuse - since Switzerland is probably way more hygienic and still does not ask you to use such thing. Nevertheless: all in all a great experience and I will def. Return :)
