We are not discussing the regulations put in place by the Portuguese government, but the attitude of the management and staff of the hotel. On 23 December, a quick covid test was accepted by hotel staffs for check-in. On 3 January, these measures had apparently changed and only an antigen test was accepted. On 6 January we were not informed about this, as we had returned from the Azores where other regulations are in force.
On arrival at the hotel we were treated with condescension and contempt by the reception staff. They were amused at the idea that their guests were going to spend the night in the car, despite a paid reservation. The information that a test was available at the village pharmacy in three weeks' time was nothing short of contemptuous. This attitude is unacceptable.
Under the current conditions, whose only aim is to drive tourists out of Portugal, an honest and customer-oriented management should:
Renounce non-cancellable reservations until the last moment. Warn its customers by e-mail, at least one day before check-in, of the change in rules. Provide a list of locations with schedules where an antigen test can be performed.
Following this frightening reception, the management did even not come to talk to us the next day. They are simply indifferent to their...
Read moreWhen we arrived they told us we were very lucky we got an upgrade, we were very happy, when I open the door I couldn't believe my eyes everything very old. The condition of the hotel is not 4 stars. Everything falls apart, when we closed the room door it sees that the whole hotel knew about it. To close the door you had to push very hard. when you set in the hotel is like you are in the 60's/70's need urgent modernisation. No double glaze windows all night and day you could hear all noises if you go for a rest avoid this hotel. The breakfast it was awful for the rest of the stay I had to go to a coffee shop. The bed is not comfortable specially the pillows. The TV in the room was very small and if you in bed you could't see because the TV was to low. I went to the reception and ask for a kettle I was told no the kettles are only for children. from the reception to the room was very pleasant if you had to carry your suite cases you have to got to stairs to take the lift from the 9th floor to the 5th floor and then walk a long corridor and stairs to take another lift to the 4th floor every time we left the room was the same 4th, 5th and 9th floor. the only good thing in the hotel was location. I have travelled all over the world and never had to write a bad...
Read moreI love this place and it's the best hotel to stay in Sesimbra, but it won't be to everyone's taste, so read on - if you like cramped, modern boutique hotels with spas etc this is not for you - it's old school. What it does have is fabulous views, a few steps from the beach and a superb, huge, indoor, heated pool with a high ceiling and glass walls - it also has a big outdoor pool
The Hotel Do Mar is definitely from a different era and no worse for that - built in the '60s, it reminds me of a Spanish Parador built by a state hotel corp to very high standards. I had an old wing room for eu70 with breakfast - it was medium sized and not in the best shape, but very clean with a small terrace opening onto a garden, the outdoor pool and fabulous views
The new wing rooms are bigger and more modern. There are loads of giant common areas, check in was charming and efficient and breakfast adequate rather than great. The whole palce is well maintained and clean - the indoor pool was spotless
Overall, I would highly recommedn this as the best place to stay in Sesimbra - I have been to several - esp for the views...
