Wonderful Family Stay at Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar in Monte Gordo!
Our family (2 adults, 2 children aged 8 and 3) recently enjoyed a fantastic week-long stay at Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar in Monte Gordo this July. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and we would certainly recommend it, especially for families.
Our apartment was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable self-catering holiday. While the decor felt a little dated and could benefit from an update, it was perfectly functional and provided a great base for our adventures. We opted for the stay-only option due to food allergies, which worked out perfectly for us.
The hotel's location is truly excellent. There's a direct walkway from the hotel that leads straight to the beautiful beach in just two minutes – ideal for quick dips and sandcastle sessions! We also loved being within a 10-minute walk of numerous restaurants and cafes, and having a small supermarket nearby (which even stocked plant-based milks!) was incredibly convenient for essentials.
We made good use of the on-site facilities. The underground garage was a huge plus for us with our electric car; charging was straightforward, and there were always plenty of empty chargers available (€8 per charge, regardless of electricity used, which was fair for the convenience). The laundrette (€6 for a wash, €6 for a dry) was also incredibly useful for keeping our clothes fresh throughout the week. We also had lunch at the pool bar a couple of times and absolutely loved it – the food was very tasty and the service was wonderfully quick!
On the last couple of mornings, we decided to try the hotel breakfast, and it was really enjoyable with a great variety of food available. There was a slight discrepancy in pricing between the two days (charged for 2 adults and 1 child on the first day, and 2 adults and 2 children on the second), but it was a minor point in an otherwise pleasant experience.
The staff were generally nice and helpful, always ready to assist. We did encounter a couple of reception staff members who seemed less inclined to engage, even when spoken to in Portuguese, but this was an exception rather than the rule.
Our room had a partial sea view, which we paid extra for. While we could indeed see the sea from our west-facing balcony, it also overlooked an area where street vendors set up, which made us less comfortable using the balcony for relaxing. A small clothesline on the balcony would also be a useful addition, though the one over the bathtub was very handy for drying swimwear!
Despite a few minor points, Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar offers a fantastic location and excellent facilities for a family holiday in Monte Gordo. We had a great time and appreciate the convenience and comfort...
Read moreWe are a family of four. We stayed in a 3rd floor room facing the road. ||Check in was fine without any complications. As others have said we had to pay for the safe but this was mentioned beforehand so was not a surprise. ||The apartment was basic and as we were self catering we would say the kitchen was not sufficient. No oven available and the hob was not great. We had to ask for breakfast bowls. ||The children's bed was not comfortable they said. ||Despite being in a room facing the road it was not too noisy even though there was work going on across the road. ||The cleaning staff were great for cleaning our room at the irregular times were out of it. Made a big difference to get the sand cleaned up.||Probably due to the time of year it was very quiet which meant we had good access to sun loungers at the pool. Even at the weekend when it was busier it was fine. Beware the pool quickly loses heat and will be very cold in the morning 😀||Pool side cafe was good although after a certain point they were reluctant to take card payments or charge the room. ||The location of the hotel was ideal for reaching the beach quickly and this was the main positive for us. The hotel is on the edge of Monte Gordo which means to get to the restaurants there is a short walk. Didn't bother us because the proximity to the beach was more important. ||Overall we enjoyed our stay but mainly for the location and our choice to be self catering meant the kitchen was...
Read moreFor starters I never like to write reviews but I just had to. I Booked this hotel for a little getaway with my friend, when we arrived the reception staff were quite nice but the restaurant staff was just pure rude, not a smile in sight when smiling at them, we waited to tell them our room to go and eat at tea time and 2 staff members near the set restaurant was just staring at us which made us both uncomfortable, the staff kinda just hover over you making you feel very unwelcome, the food I’m not gunna lie wasn’t nice at all, so we just ate out most nights as it was hard to stomach, the food looks like it’s been left out all evening, there’s no signs to what the food actually is so if you have any allergies I really don’t recommend as what looked like onions rings was actually calamari.
Our last night when we fished eating 2 male staff members just stared at us the entire time laughing and talking to each other. We just upped and left back to our room.
The rooms The rooms are nice however they’re quite unclean, there was hairs stuck to the wall near the doors when we walked in, there was hairs in the shower, on the toilet floor and in the sink and under the sink, there’s stains all over the furniture, I have personally stayed in 2* hotels better than this.
I would say the location is nice if you like it quiet and love seafood as every place around the beach front is...
