The best assets of this hotel are the position (right across the street from the beach) and orientation (rooms on both sides can have a sea view). But these are of course the merits of the architects and designers who projected this hotel in this place/position when it was built. Rooms have no balcony though. The rooms still have old fashioned furniture (doors of the closet wont stay closed) and the cleaning ladies presence is not to be felt very much in the room, although they can be seen all the day long dragging vacuum cleaners along the corridors. And when you check out they must first ”allow” you to do so...that is, after they check you have not stolen anything from the room! These are bad, old-fashioned ”manners” from the communist times which are not used anymore nowadays in any other hotel in Romania! Another hotel (also 2 stars) located just 100 m away from Doina does NOT have these habits! So it is not the stars but the people :( The restaurant is very poor, scarcy offer (and still many ingredients missing so you can not even get what is on the list) and all dishes contain meat. Vegetarian people will die for starvation, unless they can be pleased with the very small salads. I suggest avoiding this hotel...at least until they understand there is something wrong in their approach and would eventually...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel in the peak tourist season in July for two nights and it was interesting. I did not eat at the hotel so I can't comment on the food. The hotel was clean and most of the staff was courteous. I was the only American in the hotel, heck, I didn't see any other Americans or Westerners for the duration of my short trip in the entire resort. The rooms were clean and I had a good view of the beach. The only strange thing was that I reserved the room at a discount on a booking website. The rate was quoted in USD, to be paid in Romanian currency. When I was checking in, the front desk lady took my reservation and then quickly showed me an amount in Romanian leu and I gave her my credit card. Luckily, I was on my guard and I quickly requested my credit card back so I could do the conversion myself. I discovered that she was charging me the "walk-in" rate and completely ignored my reservation rate. I had to take the calculator from her, because she was being frisky, and actually show her how I did the calculation, gesticulating toward the reservation rate on the paper. She then wised up, and, without a sign of embarrassment or sympathy, admitted I was right. Overall, I would recommend the hotel. It was a great value, especially when you consider the location, which...
Read moreI was scared going here after reading all the reviews, so I think now that it is my duty to share my experience.||So..my first impression was good. The hotel is nice and clean; the front desk persons was efficient and polite.||Our room: clean, white sheets on the bed, old furniture in a reasonable condition. Bathroom was not a nice place to see, because there was mold on the walls and the general aspect was of a place that need improvement.||||Our room was cleaned every day, towels were changed.||||Food: I ate some excellent stuff there, but also some not good ones. Still, everything was fresh and prices are more than reasonable. Serving was excellent, they have some hard working young people there.||So, I do not think I want to go back, but still I think it is a reasonable hotel. My opinion is that they have a new management and they are making efforts to improve things there - everybody looked quite concerned to keep the...
