Per visitatori che siano interessati (per curiosità, passione, o professione) alle stagioni di musica, opera e balletto offerte dai due teatri Mariinsky (quello antico e quello recente, costruiti uno accanto all’altro), consiglio caldamente l’hotel Alexander house, affacciato sul canale Kryukov, a due passi dai Mariinsky, pressoché di fronte alla splendida chiesa di san Nicola che sta dall’altra parte del canale e nei suoi elegantissimi due piani offre funzioni religiose di mirabile e commovente bellezza.||L’Alexander House dista pochi minuti a piedi dai bus che partono per il centro, a 10 minuti a piedi da palazzo Yussupov, a 20 minuti a piedi dall'Hermitage. È silenzioso, occupa un edificio di fine Settecento di recentissima, sobria e congrua ristrutturazione; con stanze molto grandi (pressoché delle suite), ciascuna con carattere e arredamento diverso, comodissime e pulitissime. È organizzato come una casa – la proprietaria pare abiti al piano di sopra, e per gli ospiti sono disponibili, oltre alla stanza privata, e alle stanze per la ristorazione, anche altri spazi piuttosto ampi, uno di biblioteca e uno di conversazione. Il servizio è da albergo di lusso, ma il confort, l'accoglienza, il 'sentirsi a casa' sono quelli dei migliori b&b anglosassoni. Il personale è giovane, efficace, intelligente, disponibile, cordiale e affabile, e parla un inglese eccellente, alcuni pressoché da madrelingua. Ottima la prima colazione ampia e varia, a buffet con piatti caldi cucinati al momento, inclusa nel prezzo. Il servizio di cucina, di ottima qualità e a prezzi ragionevoli, è aperto 24/24 h, e si può fruirne nella propria stanza o nelle salette dedicate. Quando tornerò a Pietroburgo, tornerò lì.||Il pagamento del soggiorno viene richiesto all’arrivo.||Sembra che nei pressi ci siano due saune (banya), una tradizionale, l’altra tipo SPA.||||For travellers interested to Mariinsky theaters, and for all travellers who like to stay in a nice and peaceful environment not far from the center, there is Alexander House hotel, 5 minutes walk to Mariinskys (who are in view), in front of splendid St. Nicholas Church (magnificent orthodox functions inside), 10 minutes walk to Yussupov palace, 25 minutes walk to Hermitage and a few minutes to bus stops. Situated in a recently and respectfully restored XVIII cent simple building, offers very large and confortable (and perfectly clean) rooms and others rooms (library and living rooms) dedicated to guests. Look no further - a perfectly lovely hotel in an excellent location. Small enough for the staff to give guests individual attention, whilst still providing everything you could possibly need. Staff - friendly, helpful and really make guests feel looked after and at home. Rooms - unique but tasteful decor, comfortable with big bathrooms. Many have lovely views. Location - excellent - peaceful and quiet but a short walk from tourist sites and public transport. Very convenient for the airport. Food - breakfast is excellent, with Russian cakes and pies, cold meat, vegetables, cereals, fruit, bread, omelettes, pancakes, fried eggs, bacon etc. as well as home-made fruit juices. This review is long over due. If you would like to stay in an original, modern and yet authentically Russian setting, Alexander House is for you. Denise was amazing, and I would like to thank him for his wonderful hospitality, he truly made my stay special with his tips and giving his vacation time to give me a brief walk with such interesting stories, thank you. Don’t stay in a cookie cutter commercial hotel you can stay anywhere, go for an authentic experience. This place is close to the Marinsky Theater also gives you a choice to walk inland toward the coast, giving you a chance to explore the off beaten path and not just tourist spots, 15 minute walk to the Winter Palace.
