If you're looking for a phenomenal hotel to explore the Bohinj valley, stop looking! My wife and I were visiting the area for a long-planned three week honeymoon to Slovenia. At the last minute we stayed at Gasperin, because the roof of our original hotel had caved in. Our room was spacious, the shower was phenomenal and the bed was incredibly confrotable. To top it off, the view from our room of the Julian Alps, was superb. The breakfast's were also incredible. Having grown up in a small town in VT, I grew up eating and loving local food. The eggs and much of the food at breakfast was local and delicious! Gasperin's location is equally phenomenal! It's a 5 minute walk to Lake Bohinj (bo heen) and a 7-10 miniute walk to the two local restaurants and Mercator supermarket. What really makes Gasperin shine are it's owners, Kelly and Peter.
From the get-go, Kelly gave my wife and I phenomenal suggestions regarding hiking trails and activities in the area. This proved crucial because neither of us had ever hiked beyoned 4,500 feet or experienced the challenges of Slovenian Karst. Kelly went above and beyond to calm our fears, while also assuring us that our guide was well certified etc. Meanwhile, Peter immediately fixed a slow drain in our shower. It gets better, when we returned from the toughest hike in our lives, Kelly made sure our clothes were sent out"to be cleaned ASAP. In less than two hours, the clothes were cleaned. I'm pretty sure she laundered the clothes herself. Finally, the honesty bar with honor system billing for sodas and beer was a great and welcome option after several long days walking etc.
Finally, Kelly was able to accomodate one more hotel hiccup and booked us for an extra night with no fuss. Fi It's important to note that the majority of Gasperin's clientele for the nearly 7 days we were there, were are clad in hiking pants, wearing boots as well as sporting packs and hiking poles. Consequently, Gasperin is a clear a favorite of outdoorsy folks. For all of the above reasons, Gasperin is BY FAR, the best independent hotel we've...
Read moreWe had an excellent stay. Very friendly and personable owners. On arrival we were given lots of useful information about the area and options to fill our 4 night stay. Our room number 50 was on the top floor and was immaculately clean. Spacious, comfortable beds, table and chairs and plenty of storage. Excellent shower. A balcony with the most beautiful of views. We slept very well here. Breakfast is very good, lots and lots of choice and beautifully laid out. A choice of eggs, hot and cold items. Good choices for all be it meat, veggie, vegan, gluten intolerant etc.. nice touches of local items available too. Location is perfect, easy access to the lake and other hiking paths. Supermarket nearby. Restaurant wise the hotel can give you recommendations certainly try Foskner for a good burger and to Gostilna Mihovc for excellent local affair. Bohinj area is absolutely stunning. We walked lots round the lake, to Slap Savica, Pec viewpoint, Mostnica and Slap Ribnica. We loved it and our stay at Gasperin and would recommend it. We drank the water from the numerous natural water sources in the area, which were particularly excellent as the weather was hot whilst we were there and with all the walking it was thirsty work. Thank you for an excellent...
Read moreThis hotel had a cold, unfriendly vibe throughout, especially compared to the hospitality I felt at other establishments around Slovenia. When I made the booking, I received a rather brusque email stating all the rules and regulations and things that were not possible. Arrival welcome was polite, but cold, we were told to scan QR codes for most travel advice. There were signs around threatening an 8 EUR charge for taking out any breakfast items, charges for coffee and tea during the day, etc. The worst part was the checkout. We traveled by bus and left our bags for the morning. We came back to pick them up and catch the bus, and were told there were no restroom facilities available outside the guest rooms. So we faced a two hour bus ride with no possibility to use a bathroom and wash up before the travel. When I asked repeatedly if we could just use a toilet, the 'host' simply left the room. I was stunned, especially after paying 200 Euros a night to stay in this establishment. I also find it ironic that this hotel claims to be so 'eco-friendly', yet refuses to accommodate the needs of its guests who choose not to travel by car. Go down the road and find a friendlier hotel or apartment closer to the...
