Well, positive things first: The bun was really good, fluffy but firm, so it was holding the burger nicely together. The patty was also great, fresh meat perfectly grilled on point on the green egg - really big potential here! Cheddar & bacon were also lovely. But we've had one big issue unfortunately - the sauces. First of all, bbq sauce (out of the tube in this case, not homemade) should never be served as default dip for wedges (also convenience - not selfmade), the sweetness just doesn't fit to potato products. Instead, I would love the homemade aioli much more, or even sour cream or creme fraiche. At least the customer should be asked what dip he/she prefers. Secondly, the sauce constellations of the burgers are too much, some of them have 3, 4 or even 5 sauces on it, why? Thi is way too much, in the end you won't taste any of them. Mustard on the burger with aioli was also not a good combination, the taste of the mustard was just too strong and the aioli was totally disappearing. Also for the crunch & freshness I think any burger should have some lettuce on it by default, but this is probably my personal taste. Read moreI appalled at the terrible service received. This it was shocking, even for European standards. We were ignored at the door. When finally we had to wave at the server she said to wait. OK fine, but are inside tables available? She said "I don't know" and walked away. Later she sat us outside and we waited without menus while guests that arrived later placed their orders. We debated leaving. We could not flag down service at all because she wasn't ever looking around. Then I saw that inside tables were wide open to I asked a different server to move there. She couldn't remember our order even with the small menu, which is not a big deal, but then write it down, right? Salad was served without side plates. We asked for the check right away but she just ignored that and asked later how we wanted to pay even though we already told her. Read moreAt Foksner, we enjoyed a ribeye steak that was cooked to absolute perfection, just as I had requested. The Canadian-sourced meat was incredibly soft, tender, and bursting with flavor. It was grilled in the Big Green Egg, which we noticed on the way in, and the staff even mentioned that the steak came off the grill at 47 degrees—showing just how knowledgeable they are.
We also had the beef goulash, which was rich and full of flavor, with tender beef in a hearty sauce. The staff were not only helpful and funny, but they also spoke great English and added to the experience with their expertise.
The combination of excellent food, warm ambiance, and fantastic service made this a meal to remember. It was so good, we couldn't help but keep coming back for diner for the majority of our week long holiday. If you're near lake Bohinj, Foksner is definitely worth a visit - especially for steak and goulash lovers!
