House On Plein — Hotel in Drakenstein Local Municipality

Where do I start, this place I located in the beautiful central Paarl and surrounded by restaurants, and also there is a grocery store near by which is very convenient, I don’t normally leave reviews but since am a Christian it would be injustice to the next person looking to book a stay in Paarl with House on Plein.

The level of professionalism is questionable, Terrible experience would be an understatement especially for expectant moms R700-R750 overnight stay should afford you a decent comfortable, homely place, however in this case we booked this place not expecting a 5 star treatment but a decent and professional one, not a back packer experience unfortunately that is what we received.

I see a lot of reviews on here and the owner’s reply stems from a place of defence , Mr Owner these reviews are not meant to crucify but rectify, anyways we booked the place Friday the 26/07/24 and we weee provided a room so cold we even asked if there are any heating plans, air conditioners or something and unfortunately there was none the place was ice cold , however we stayed fortunately we packed extra blankets to add.

We then extended our stay for the 27/04 we were then moved to a room downstairs, the room was fine but there were no towels, we had to ask for coffee and sugar to be refilled, as that was not enough there is only one bathroom downstairs for about 5 rooms if am not mistaken with a broken door-handle still not safe for a woman.

Saturday night the man responsible for bookings was the drinking with the friends at night next to the fire place closer to our room we could hear everything, still later they night a white man drunk as fish forcefully tried to come in to our room telling us to open the door , and we asked why with no answer he just kept knocking the way I was so frightened I wanted to leave the place immediately, he then left and we tried to sleep few minutes later there there was loud swearing from the same man , The insults were out of this world we were up until midnight listening to these insults.

I am very very disappointed 😔 and point blank traumatised! Please do better...

Not happy with the service and the rooms. Towel used as a curtain. Side lamps not working and not enough plug points. During load shedding there was no UPS or Generator, would expect to have candles but that was not available either. When we asked for candles we were told that they did not have any and proceded with their partying. The side lamps were also stuck with glue which was not appealing at all. Rooms, during our stay the rooms were never cleaned and the bedding and towels never changed. We were given x2 towels for x2 people, no bath sheets or hand towels. Coffee, sugar and powdered milk placed in jars which did not look clean. Other problem is that we did not know if maybe someone put something in those jars which is not hygienic or safe. They should rather use sachets of coffee, sugar and milk. The cupboards was full of dust, only noticed when the laptop bag was taken down from the cupboard to find it full of dust. The ceilings was covered with mold. Staff having a braai outside our cottage whilst we were trying to sleep. They seemed to consume a lot of alcohol whilst we were there. WiFi signal very bad, had to go to the main house to use the Wi-Fi. Access to the parking very primitive, had to use a key to unlock the lock on the chain and there is no signage as to the parking for the lodge. Felt unsafe sitting in the middle of the road trying to open the gate whilst the car was running and then had to lock it again before preceding to the parking in case someone would come in whilst you are parking your car and coming all the way back to...

Location is lovely. But I didn't enjoy the owner's weird approach to hospitality which consisted of very abrupt messages regarding payment which was demanded immediately despite a 50% immediate deposit paid upon booking. These messages made me think eventually the establishment was closing down and not very functional. I’m happy to do upfront payment but the fear based almost rude messages demanding payment were not pleasant. When we arrived the owner Andre was nowhere to be found and totally unreachable for 45 mins so we couldn't get a key. If you have the misfortune to stay here make sure you ask for the manager’s number as Andre will not think to give it to you beforehand. Eventually someone exited the property and we were able to get inside to get the phone number to reach someone else who had a key for us. Very stressful start. Then drunk and disorderly guests kept us awake both nights from 1am till about 330am. On the second night the manager eventually came out to sort the guest who seemed to be beating up his partner. But it took a few hours and our sleep was completely disrupted. The manager Lourens did his best but this establishment on this weekend was full of different groups of drunk, disorderly and very disruptive people who felt nothing about keeping us awake all night. Not pleasant at all. We will not be back. And I recommend that anyone who values their sleep and peace of mind on a weekend away does not stay here.
