Arum Place Guest House — Hotel in Gauteng

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I arrived early in the morning to learn the manager would be leaving shortly. She warned me about how dangerous the area was and tried to rush me into making plans for the day before leaving for the weekend. Later that evening, I was handed a panic button by another staff member with no explanation for why I needed this, until I called the host who simply said everyone has one and it will call the local security company. After ending the call, I went to take a shower to discover there was no running water. I couldn’t reach the manager to resolve the issue and was left scrambling to find alternative lodging at 8p in the evening. Attempts to request a refund have been ignored.

I’m a solo traveler, who’s been all over the world, including several countries in Africa and have never encountered anything like this or felt so unsafe. Since moving to a new location I have had no issues and am enjoying...

My last visit to Arum Place was in October 2019. Ownership changed since the last time I stayed, but I wouldn't have known unless I had asked about the previous owner, The new owners and staff have maintained the quality of the hotel to my expectations. ||I booked initially for 8 nights (I extended another week) as my flight arrived in Johannesburg at 3:55 in the morning and the staff easily accommodated my 6am check in. The breakfasts are excellent and my request for no pork products was also happily fulfilled. The gardens on the property are beautiful and the property itself is located in a quiet neighborhood in Melville. Rooms are clean and very comfortable, and when I had an electricity issue in my room I was moved to another before I was even able to ask. ||Keletso was a wonderful guide and help in Melville as well and always a call or a text away for anything I needed. Excellent value for money, and I hope to return...
