While the food and view at Dos Manos is incredible, the terrible service really leaves you feeling like this place isn't worth the visit. Last night we started off our order with cocktails and water. When my partner requested tap water, the waitress told us that we could not order any more tap water (someone at our table already had a glass of tap water). She said we would have to order bottled water, and it would be R40 a bottle. We asked if she could please bring tap water, as we were a big table and were planning on staying awhile and ordering a lot, and she sort of vaguely said that she would also have to charge us for the tap water because it was filtered. Huh? She was so floored by the request for tap water that she fled the table after my partner ordered, without taking anyone else's drinks orders.
Later on we attempted to order mains, as we had been sitting for about an hour and a half (it was a birthday party), and she very rudely told us that we couldn't order mains unless the entire table was ready to order mains. I've never heard anything like this in my life. But luckily we were permitted to order starters. All this for the mains to arrive at different times later on...
Later in the night we asked for more water (hesitantly, because we didn't feel like being chastised). New rule incoming, the waitress tells us that we are all permitted one (1) free glass of tap (sorry, filtered) water, after which she would have to start charging us. We got lucky again, because all those water charges didn't end up appearing in the final bill. Guess they thought twice when the bill came to R5000.......
Honestly, this was probably the rudest, most unreasonable restaurant experience I've ever had. Not that we came to expect it after 5 minutes of the service, but they did nothing for the person whose birthday it was, either.
Shame because the food was so good, and it's a really beautiful place, but believe me when I tell you they don't want...
Read moreWe ordered the Carbonara Scramble from the brunch menu, which was supposed to consist of creamy scrambled eggs with butter, bacon, parmesan, lemon zest, and spring onion. Sounds good, right?!
I was really looking forward to the added flavour the lemon zest would add to this dish, but alas, it was completely missing along with no parmesan. The dish was bland with no seasoning, no Parmesan, and no lemon zest. It was just basic scrambled eggs with bacon bits on anemic toast for R145. It was very disappointing indeed, especially because previous meals at this establishment were so good.
The UB40 CD playing in the background sounds like it is damaged or scratched as it was skipping and jumping the entire time we were there. We brought it to the waiter's attention, but he didn't seem concerned. Instead of setting the mood, it became...
Read moreBooked for a birthday Sunday lunch. Arrived at 1pm to be greeted by a “special” limited brunch menu. No mention of this when booking. Requested normal menu, and asked to see a manager. Waited 15 mins, were eventually given the regular menu. Waited another 15 mins to order. Still no manager in sight. Ordered and 10 mins later the waiter told us the chef would not start cooking our order until 2pm when the brunch menu stopped. Asked to speak to the manager again. Another 10 mins before the waiter returned to let us know he had put our order through the kitchen but could not confirm if the chef would indeed start cooking our food. Again requested a manager as we weren’t happy with the service. Went to the bar to be told the manager was out. After 45 mins of appalling lack of service and care, we left. Happy birthday to me! Very...
