Disappointing Experience at Polokwane Place
Rating: 1/5
I recently attempted to stay at Polokwane Place, but my experience was marred by a shocking price discrepancy and poor customer service.
After confirming availability via phone call, I emailed to reserve a standard room at the advertised price of R660 per night (as listed on Google). The female staff member confirmed my booking verbally.
However, upon arrival at 19:30, I was presented with an invoice charging R1100 per night – nearly double the confirmed price. Despite explaining the earlier conversation, the male staff member on duty was unhelpful, rude, and insisted I pay the inflated price or leave.
This experience raises serious concerns about Polokwane Place's business practices:
False advertising: The advertised price on Google did not match the actual price. Lack of communication: The evening staff seemed unaware of my earlier confirmation. Unprofessional service: The male staff member's attitude was unacceptable.
Travelers beware: Polokwane Place may lure you in with attractive online rates, only to surprise you with higher prices upon arrival, when it's inconvenient to seek alternative accommodations.
Recommendations:
Verify prices in writing (email or SMS) before arrival. Be cautious of establishments with inconsistent pricing. Consider alternative accommodations with transparent pricing and better customer service.
Suggestions for Polokwane Place:
Ensure price consistency across all platforms. Improve communication between staff members. Provide excellent customer service, especially during check-in.
Until these issues are addressed, I would not recommend Polokwane Place to fellow travelers.

Read morePolokwane place is a Lodge in Polokwane and I happened to be booked there for work supposed. It's about two weeks now So now they have been things happening during breakfast but the worst happened today 30 August 2023 the manager came and asked me why am I having two muffins and He said we must not take two, cause it's all about portion control (since we are also in the hospitality industry and now we train learners) what we know is portion control needs to be done in the kitchen we even said why did you not put a note that we must only take one.
So now we started an arguments trying to answer him,so we said to him doesn't He consider it rude when He asked guest why are they taking two muffins
Then He said No He was not rude, i am the one that started this by taking the two muffins as we where still shocked ,two guests walked in who where white people (sorry for the racist comment but unfortunately in south africa it's still exists)The manager said to us Let's stop talking guests are here and we asked him ,so we are not quests? And we also asked him is this gentle man not a guest because you managed to ask us why are we talking two muffins in front of him and it wasn't a problem but then no ,now white people walked in they are the once who are guests and He left us to attend the other guests and of course we were upset and we were talking with my colleague,he overheard us talking and he came and asked us why are we speaking English, and I asked him to respect our space
So I'm just done with this place ,they need to let us know if black people...
Read moreSo this is the Getaway Gateway or Getaway Polokwane. Very confusing name. I read a different name on the web as well.
On entering you're welcomed cordially. And with "Glory glory halleluya" played by someone on a recorder over the sound system. Repeat is on.
The room is quite average or a tad below. Once again not a nurturing atmosphere. If I'm going to be forced to be away from home I want to be nurtured. Made to feel at home.
The bedding is comfortable but not really white anymore. Lots of comfy pillows to choose from. Great.
The bathroom is outdated with a tiny shower over the bath and taps that simply will not do what I want. This establishment is still one of very few to provide tiny soaps. Most nowadays have shower gel. Well I am clean and that is what counts. Beats bathing in a bucket.
The "glory hallelujah" is still going. Day 2.
Heard some folks complaining about lack of water.
Breakfast is an interesting affair. You tick ✅ on a form what you want and it is made fresh. You have a choice of Continental Breakfast for R65 or Full Breakfast for R95. Pity the vegetarian who wants breakfast.
Wait, now the recorder man is playing "Near the cross" again and again.
Back to breakfast. Nothing special but filling. Not guesthouse food.
Admin went well.
Getaway gateway is almost hotel and not a guest house.
Will try somewhere else next time.
...... Near the cross......
