It is with great disappoint that I read the email from the owner who was more interested in finding ways to shift the blame on us. Sies Andy!
The assumption that the covid-19 regulations were not taking into consideration is such a double standard taking into account the house was not cleaned properly before we checked in, the fridge was working however smelt very bad and iced the goods in the fridge which indicates that the owner himself does not pride himself in giving a good product off to client, paying clients. And it seems his email, that whatever is put in the house must just be accepted, maybe so but then SIP needs to change the advertised photos on the websites SOON as this is false advertising.
By the response from the owner, had we not documented all the faults and existing breakages, we would have been put in a situation of fault by association to this compliant which reflects a level of unprofessionalism on his part. We complained because we are use to a level of standard when staying in Paternoster and I personally have not been disappointed by any house, I mean I spent my honeymoon in Paternoster and loved it, considering how high my expectations was!
But overall, the house itself has not been maintained with a level of effort acceptable in the tourism industry, so let’s break it down for the owner who seems to have lacked basic customer service, customer excellence and deliverance; the owner clearly has not implemented a level of standard as he feels it is okay to put old broken furniture in a holiday house and expect people to pay to spend their vacation there, chairs were covered with rugs to hide the tear in the fabric, the indoor fireplace looks more like a storeroom then an accessible area to make a fire, hence why we didn’t touch it. The kitchen cutlery were dumped in there, no uniformity and filthy linen! Overall no intention to create an oasis away from home, so his intention to hire his home is purely to make money at other people’s dissatisfaction.
The bathroom, which is EXPECTED to be a sanitary area were covered in mould on the grout, on the ceiling and floors, we actually felt more comfortable showering with slippers on considering we on vacation, we expected the house to be of equal standards to our own homes or better, yet this was not the case and resulted to injuries on the property because a toilet seat was not correctly installed.
It is important to not associate your business with people who lack the ability to admit where their faults are, especially when they are taking people’s hard earn money and basically giving them a poor, and unsatisfactory product. Here is where I draw an ethics line, and no matter how much this owner wants to bark up situations that are non-existent we will then continue to question his moral compass.
Sad to say but Manatoka is a thing of the past and all referrals made to this house has been withdrawn.

The minute we walked into that place, we could smell the dust. Having allegies myself, my sinuses was flared up all days we stayed there.
The downstairs toilet flush button didnt work properly, when you flush the toilet it does not pop back up and we had to push it up and down till the water stopped running as it could cause a flood. The same toilet seat was loose. They did repair the toilet seat that day and brought another fridge, which also wasnt getting cold as it should. There is mold in the downstairs shower. The fridge had a funny smell and was not working properly even when we put it on the highest, the fridge still did not get cold as it should. The mop was black and dirty. The upstairs main bedrooms gate couldnt lock, none of the keys for the bedroom doors to the balcony/patio worked. The upstairs twin bedrooms en-suite bathroom, the paint or seal in the shower is peeling.
I dont know if this house was cleaned after the last guests and was just left as is and basically fogged the place on the day. Who fogs a place on the day that the guest arrives? I dont know. But it was not cleaned the day before or the morning of. Because you can smell a clean house. When we complained and gave our feedback to the owner, he was immediately hostile and has taken no responsibility whatsoever. He has moved the blame onto us. We even put the morning breakfast dishes in the dishwasher, we tidied up before we left. He even accused us of breakage, but there was not 1 thing that we broke. How can you accuse us of things broken in the house when they were already broke when we arrived. We booked this house through stay in paternoster, they have a high standard, this house should be removed. The owner is not interested in growing and becoming a better host.
