Nestled in the quaint coastal town of Paternoster, De Seekat Restaurant presents an ambiance that seamlessly blends rustic charm with a dash of sophistication. Upon entry, the establishment beckons with its artfully arranged seating that promises views of the shimmering ocean, accompanied by the soothing sounds of waves. The outdoor area, adorned with pebbled grounds and whitewashed benches, offers a serene spot for dining under the open sky, encapsulated by the cool sea breeze. As the sun sets, the firepit becomes a cozy centerpiece.
Bookings are a must at De Seekat, as their tailored operational hours ensure each guest receives attentive service and an unrivaled culinary experience. The restaurant's distinctive offering allows diners to curate their very own platter, an engaging touch that personalizes the meal. The Summer platter sushi, a standout selection, comes highly recommended for its freshness and flavor, even holding its own as a singular dish. Our culinary journey was further elevated by the addition of succulent crumbed calamari, mussels steeped in a fragrant coconut milk and coriander broth, snoek samoosas, and a side of perfectly fried potatoes. This bespoke combination has etched itself as our "go-to" platter for future visits. While the dessert menu did not particularly pique our interest, with the malva pudding falling short of expectations, the wine list was a delightful exploration of local vineyards and beyond. With a glass in hand and a feast before us, De Seekat solidified its place as a must-visit establishment for any epicurean adventurer. In conclusion, De Seekat Restaurant in Paternoster is a gem worth discovering, where each dish is a brushstroke in a larger picture of culinary artistry. We look forward to returning and indulging once again in the creative mastery of...
Read moreI give this a 4 because the daily fish platter was very good. Angel fish crusted with a lightly spicy crumb but not heavily fried. Great veg and rice as sides. The other daughter had a nice tuna steak cooked correctly at rare but … lots of connective tissue which distracted from the overall dish and made it difficult to cut without mushing and shredding. That was disappointing at about 240 rand. My seafood platter was not something I would have again as mussels were ok but broth just tasted of coconut milk with not much else going on. The prawns— craw daddy’s in Pretoria is much better, bigger, tastier and much much cheaper for similar sized prawns and no these are not local— I asked . Biggest disappointment were the oysters— small, tough and whoever shucked them a) left loose shell piece in 2 —yuck and b) didn’t loosen them from the shell— lip ripped apart prying them off the shell. . Quite expensive per piece as well — same as inland in the Cape Wine district and you get a glass of champagne with your 6 oysters there. Would absolutely not recommended the oysters. The angel fish was a 5. The tuna a 3.5 the rest a 3. They also need to change their fry oil. The chips —...
Read moreHave to give it a 5. We went for cocktails the night before and booked for a late lunch for the next day. First and foremost- Vanessa. The most unbelievable personality, she read each table like the pro she is. Joke with one, loud with another, calm and respectful with the next. I have not seen someone in charge like that in many years. That alone is enough to go and visit. The views are amazing, the service is all about sit back and relax, take your time and do not rush. Drinks were always served promptly, ice cold and correct. For lunch we shared a calamari tentacles starter with a pineapple & ginger salsa- 10/10. I am always nervous to try a fish like Angel fish in a restaurant as they can be overcooked in a flash. It was perfect. We also had the king prawn and calamari combo with Spanish rice. Again, cooked, presented and tasted amazing. They are not flame grilled, more than likely pan fried, so a much more gentle flavour and a firmer prawn- really really good. All in all: view fantastic, food fantastic, service fantastic. We live in the Cape, this is certainly not a tourist trap- it’s 10/10 on all levels. Highly...
