As the Whale's Rib and the Waffle Wharf share a location you can choose between seafood or everything waffle. We decided to go for seafood at the Whale's Rib. There was a buzzing atmosphere and they were super busy, but luckily we got a table big enough for our group and ordered some of their on-tap craft beers. If you make a booking I recommend you make one for a table outside as you will then have a clear view of all activity at the Paternoster Crayfish Wharf as well as the ocean. We also ordered some food, which looked good and was very tasty. One of the guys in the group even went for a waffle from the Waffle Wharf (it's a nice touch that you can cross order). Although the food and atmosphere was great, their service let them down severely. Initially our waiter was very attentive, but later on he basically forgot about us. The manager then started intervening, bringing some of our dishes that were still outstanding (most of the group had already finished eating). Our one friend didn't get the sauce that was meant to come with her dish so had to ask for it, and even though she wanted to take her leftovers home, the waiter didn't ask and threw the used serviettes etc into her plate and took it away before she could say anything. They were very busy that day, but could have handled it better. Overall if it wasn't for the service it would have been a much...
Read moreMy husband (and several other people) gave it a negative review but somehow, despite various search combinations, these reviews get lost / disappear so congrats to their marketing team. For this reason I gave 5 stars in order that I can warn people and not have MY review "disappear". DO NOT go here if you are more than 4 people. We were a group of 8. Drinks arrived after an acceptable waiting period, maybe took a little longer but we were in a great mood and understanding. Meal order was placed with no weird requests or demands. Then the fun started... Imagine receiving dishes in 20 to 30 min intervals i.e the kitchen was unable to coordinate 8 dishes to arrive simultaneously and took us 2 hours for everyone to receive and finish there meals. This simple action is one of the first things one teaches your staff when opening a restaurant. The manager just shrugged and apologised. Waffles are dry and some items on the menu could do with a bit of sauce to combine the flavours and hide the blandness. The R1,600.00 we spent, could have been better spent elsewhere. What was meant to be a beautiful and delicious experience turned out to be frustrating and bland. Definitely one of the more negative experiences we will remember. Will not be taking visitors to the Weskus here again. Such a pity as it looks...
Read moreSetting and view is beautiful, the food is delicious, the staff are friendly and we would like to support local businesses, however receiving bad service multiple times leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Even in quiet times you wait long for your waitress. After the waitress brought our drinks we never saw her again. With nobody coming to ask if we wanted anything else and we had to call someone so that we could get the bill after sitting for an extended time at our table with empty coffee cups breaking our necks looking around for someone to serve us. After reading past reviews it seems that management has done nothing to improve their service which is worrisome as it seems it will become difficult to support local when you can eat cheaper with better service...
