I checked in the hotel with my husband and kids, paid a fee of R80 for parking. The hotel manager instructed the security to direct us to the hotel parking area. The security guard directed us into an ally of an incoming traffic. As we got in the ally of incoming traffic unaware that is incoming traffic, the Metro police came behind us and stopped us. Demanded by husband's driving licence rudely. My husband explained the official that we are tourist and he was instructed by the hotel security to drive into the lane. The officer didn't want to listen to anything we had to say, she started saying she's going to impound our vehicle. My husband quickly walked back to the hotel to call the hotel manager to come and explain the situation and misunderstanding. By the time my husband got back with the hotel manager, there was a squad of police called waiting for my husband. When the hotel manager and hotel security tried to clear the misunderstanding, the police officials threatened the hotel manager and hotel security guard that they will arrest them if they dare say something. The police squad went on to assault my husband by pepper spraying and head hitting him on his mouth till his tooth came loose. The police officials handcuffed him and threw him at the back of the police van and took him to the police station. All of this assault is happening infront of my 9&5 year old children. My children are sitting in the car traumatized and crying. I drove my husband's car to the police station by following the police vehicles. By the time I got there the police were busy writing him a fine of R5000 and suspended his car disc claiming that his car is not road worthy. This is not true reason being that my husband received the car disc the previous day meaning the car is deemed road worthy. They even tested him for alcohol over and over, the test kept coming back negative. They did this to try to get charge him, to prove a point but they failed. This is what I call abuse of power. We drove back to the hotel, we asked the hotel manager is this how the guest are treated and led to the wrong directions to be arrested by police. And top of that fail the guest by not speaking up to protect them. We asked the hotel manager how is he planning to resolve this, he responded by saying he doesn't know what to, there is nothing he can do about the situation, and that he has informed his superiors. Currently my husband is in physical pain due to the assault and my children are traumatized by witnessing their father getting assaulted and arrested infront of them. It's been almost 3 hours after the terrible ordeal and the hotel manager has taken no action to resolve the issue at hand. My husband still does not have his car disc. We are at the risk of our car getting impounded because our car disc has been suspended and my husband getting arrested again, at this point I feel like we are police targets. I feel my family's life is in danger. The hotel has not done anything in this regard. It's our first time travelling to Durban, we don't know Durban, we are just tourist and now we are facing this tragic issue caused by the hotel security guard who failed to protect us as the guest...
Read moreWe had the most fantastic stay while on vacation. The bus dropped us off in the early morning, right at the hotel door. Junior at the Reception, immediately welcomed us ever so warmly. He checked in and stored our bags safely, giving us the freedom and peace of mind to explore the surroundings.
After waiting for some time in the lobby, we were graciously allowed to check into our room, thank you. Our 1st breakfast at Clippers Cafe was somewhat disappointing but the subsequent eating experiences at 7 Palms were mind blowing; excellent service and the most delicious food options to choose from. Plenty other eating locations outside the hotel.
The room cleaning services were great. Please see if you can change the shower curtain. It's too thin and kept touching one while showering; not a pleasant experience.
The information and support from the reception team was outstanding starting from the telephone calls I made from home when I was checking the hotel. The staff was even more awesome in person.
The location and the surroundings were superb and there was plenty to do. We felt extremely safe with the visibility of the police and security services everywhere. People around the area were polite and very pleasant.
After our check out, the hotel offered us the waiting areas that were even better than when we arrived. Simply awesome & may God bless us all!
Deep gratitude & great joy all...
Read moreI spent two nights at this hotel for a family vacation. It was a lovely time. The hotel is located right in front of the beach, so that access to the beach is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room package included breakfast buffet and the breakfast on both days was a lovely spread and the food was delicious and well presented and abundant. The hotel is very family friendly it seems, we saw a lot of family vacationing there during our stay. The rooms we got were clean and decent and we had room service on both days (although on the first day it was a bit later than we expected). The downside was that we got rooms where the air-conditioning was not working and given that it was during summer, it was a bit of a mission to cool down , we walked past another room that had cool air coming through so that's some evidence that air-conditioning worked in some rooms , unfortunately not ours. If you are looking for a relatively affordable, decent enough hotel with easy access to the beach, this...
