Ocean Basket Marine Parade — Restaurant in North Beach

I visit Ocean Basket whenever I'm in Durban. On my previous visit I was only in Durban for the day and my only meal was at Ocean basket! I loved it that much! The service today however was the height of pathetic! My waiter looked irritated at my presence as soon as we sat down. We asked for the drinks not to have any ice and we were told it was not possible. When the food arrived, my fish was almost raw. I signalled for the waiter who chose to ignore us until my husband walked to where he was. I explained that my fish was raw, he stood dumbfounded once again mumbling under his breath about the how nothing could be done because of the sauce. He returned after 5 mins with my fish which now looked a toasty golden brown on the outside but unfortunately was still raw & almost transparent on the inside. When I called the manager my waiter came running to the table to explain that the fish had been frozen and not properly defrosted hence the raw appearance. The manager asked if I would like another piece of fish. By now my family was already done with their meal and I had lost my appetite so I declined her offer. I sent back the fish without eating it. I dont complain about food often in a restaurant but when I do, complaints are usually handled well. Here...there was nothing but a sour dont-care attitude. When the bill arrived I was shocked to find I had to pay for fish that wasn't fit to eat. When I asked the waiter how they could charge I was given yet another generic reply "thats the policy, we offered u another piece" Honestly dont feel I will be back at Ocean Basket...

My family and I have dined at all the Ocean Basket restaurants over the last 2 decades and have confidently come to the conclusion that the Marine Parade branch served the tastiest food, as a result, it's the only branch we eat at and have recommended it as the best to other family and friends... However, yesterday we were highly disappointed with the preparation of the food... We arrived at 10:30am and after placing our order of 2 fried fish and chips and 2 other dishes, we were told that the other 2 dishes will be brought to us first and the 2 fried fish and chips will take long as the boilers were not ready..... I asked the waitress how long and she couldn't give me a specific time, she just said, it will take long... another staff (lady) came and said the same thing, it will take long because the boilers take long to start up, when I insisted on giving me a specific time so as to decide whether I would like to wait or not , she then said it would take 15 minutes or even less... We decided to wait.... Finally the fish and chips arrived within 15 minutes but it was really badly done, not the usual quality that I know from this place... I brought this to the attention of the 2nd lady that spoke to us and she said it's because the boilers were not ready, she replaced 1of the 2 badly done orders, it was just slightly better but still not as good as usually is....this was the first time we had a bad experience at this Marine Parade branch.... The quality of food should not be compromised for a customer who arrives when your doors open ...

Very bad bad service we received today from Ocean Basket ,we arrived there at 04:10pm order our drinks,starter(halloumi )and mains (love platter and a prawn and calamari combo at the same time ,drinks came and starters we waited so long a family of 4 who came after us order starters, kids meal and 4 main big platters and received their food before after they even finish their starters and mains and still we hadn’t received our order on their way out , our order arrives cold cold we had even more dissapointing we being coming here for more than 5 years ,we had 3 different waiters service us no one even came to check up on us to ask if we need drinks or remove the dirty plates on table they werent even busy at all so pathetic it was such a bad day we were so angry we ended up asking for manager no one came we ended up walking to the counter no Receptionist Was even at till point we had to call another waitress to call the manager who was no where to be seen it looked so disorganised at kitchen point waiters talking more then serving ,went waiting so long then manager comes with no professionalism at all I’m even a pregnant this is very bad service to a person who is pregnant, I am so upset right now I will not be coming to this store it was one of the best Ocean Basket’s I’m very disappointed left so hungry, at the time wasted could have went to a different restaurant if knew how we would be treated we still paid R300 for our starter and drink with tip for the first waitress but it very very bad ,I am really sad with the type of...
