I have visited Korea 5 times. 3 of those 5 times I have stayed at the Hamilton because it's cheap, good central location and the noise didn't bother me that much after a while.
However I will not be going again because of the appalling service I received from a Miss Jung when checking in around 10th December 2024.
Before even walking up to the desk she had a massive attitude. No smile, no acknowledgement just a blank stare. When we got to her she didn't even greet us, no hello no how can I help. It was honestly sooo bizarre. My experience in Seoul had always been warm and welcoming and every single other staff member in the Hamilton, from the maid to the chefs have always been friendly. Eventually I had to break the silence to say 'hi can I check in?'. She barely spoke and when she did it was almost a whisper, I kept having to ask her to repeat herself....and when she did...she almost sighed as if I was being a bother to her. My partner is Korean and I shot her a look as if to say 'is this normal?'. Anyway it turned out she tried to give us a twin room. We are two women so I can understand why she may have thought we were just friends, but I said I had book a double bed...as I travelled from London to see my partner and ofcourse wanted to sleep in the same bed. She told me I had booked a twin and if I wanted to 'upgrade to a double it would cost extra' all with a dismissive tone. In a moment of not wanting to make a hassle I just agreed and paid extra. When I went upstairs it was the smallest room I've ever stayed in...right next to the maids station. I checked the booking and it said that the twin/double bed rooms were assigned via the hotels discretion...and seeing as a double room was available (as I had to pay to switch to it) she could have just switched it for free. I felt her entire attitude was just off that day. Maybe she was ill, or going through personal issues? But I think it effected her treatment of me and as a direct result I ended up paying more. The next morning we went downstairs and spoke to 3 other LOVELY staff members who said there were other rooms available if we wanted to have a look and switch if we weren't happy. So helpful and didn't seem to understand what Miss Jungs issue was the previous night. This definitely helped as I felt really upset about the way I was treated the night before. However I probably will look for somewhere else next time as I don't like the idea that a staff member (who I believe was a manager) can just be in a bad mood and effect my...
Read moreI travel a lot for work and usually book with Marriott where I get to check in early and late checkout late due to being a member. The Hamilton hotel was highly suggested by the company I'm working with due to it's location. As far as can tell it's the only good thing about the place. I arrived at the Hamilton around 8am after an overnight flight. This hasn’t been an issue generally and I guess I've been lucky enough to check in with no issue. The person checking me in told me that was a 60000 w ( roughly 45$ ) fee to check in early. I guess I didn't do too well hiding the displeasure from my face and they immediately shot me a condescending smile and did so everytime I engaged them. I tried to cancel my stay but because it was booked thru a 3rd party there would be no refund. I asked for a manager and despite there being three people being behind the counter there is apparently no Manager on duty. I still took steps to find another hotel nearby but gave up after about an half hour. Ironically a big part in this is that their wifi is spotty at best and the pages kept timing out. So, I gave in and paid the extra money because I desperately need to sleep. Wow, the rooms like they were designed and furnished in the 70's. The carpeting is various shades of poop brown. the reason I'm writing this review right now is because the walls are paper thin and I keep getting woken up by banging on the walls, the sound of kids running and yelling plus I can hear their mom loudly as well despite wearing earplugs. In the past 6 months, I've stayed in hotels in Seoul, Tokyo, Yokohama, Bangkok, Chicago, Detroit, LA, SF, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Berlin, Lisbon and several other cities around the world and I'm not kidding when i say that is by far the worst experience I've had in a hotel in probably the past 5 years. I'm awake , miserable and trying wrap my head around how they get away with charging what they do. I keep hearing every real estate agent I've ever known saying "Location , Location , Location." great location but Terrible Experience otherwise. This should be called the Hamilton Motel, it's a shame they're allowed to use Hotel in their name. Stay at...
