Displeased is the first word that comes to mind pupon leaving Bordoy hotel where we stayed for 7 nights from 16/05/2024. We were there as a couple and this was our first ever 4* all inclusive hotel, our hopes were high as per the reviews we had read. The reviews are mostly why we chose Bordoy, on google and trustpilot being higher than 4.5 on average. I am sad to say that this resort promises so much in terms of quality but delivers anything but.
First off i want to say that the WI-FI that they advertise is absolutely useless, i thought it was just heavy traffic at peak times but it was 24/7 rubbish service.
The air conditioning in our room was adequate, it cooling the room but at a minimal amount, it was an old and tired unit from what we could tell and really needs a refurb. Adding onto this there was a wire/cable that was exposed just below this unit that i will include in the photos.
The lift made both of us very uncomfortable every time we had to use it and as we were on the 4th floor this was not something that we could avoid. Going up or down the lift would make a terrible screeching noise and vibrations, having us worried it was going to collapse!
The bathroom wall appeared like something or someone had smashed a hole in the plaster and the hotel had repaired this but done a botch job in repair, again i will include this in my photos. There was a crack in the wood where the door frame met the floor.
There is one bar on the whole resort, this being by the pool / outside seating area which was almost always covered by one member of staff. Obviously this led to mass queuing and you were stood waiting for a drink at long periods especially when the entertainment was on.
There is a fancy restaurant located in the hotel where you are allowed one booking for free if you stay for 7 nights or more. We booked the meal 24 hours in advance and we were forced to pick our meals beforehand. Upon dining we were given 3 starters which were offered at the main buffet but just on fancy plates, these were adequate at best. When the main course came I was given the wrong meal…I mean what is the point of asking me beforehand if you are going to get it wrong. When we received our meals the salmon was slimy and oily, the lamb chops were chewy and you could tell it was cheap meat lathered in oil. The potatoes being undercooked. We went to the main buffet after this and had a better meal there, I would encourage staying well clear of this restaurant!
We were under the impression that all drinks were all inclusive but on the menu it states an “AI” to which the ones are “free” which i will include in my photos. This itself seemed very cheeky from the resort!
Our main pet peeve was the constant harassment from all of the staff asking what room we are in, what names are staying there and for our room card every time we wanted a drink / meal. We were never given any wristbands upon arrival and it was apparent that other people had blue, red and even green wristbands and some having none like us. I asked why is this necessary after so many times, only to be told it is hotel policy?!
I want to personally thank Alba for her friendly and polite service throughout our stay. The receptionists were mostly abrupt and rude, as if they don’t want to be there.
When dining for a meal in the buffet, you are forced to ask for an alcoholic drink by the staff, but the soft drinks / water were on tap. It seems like it is all inclusive when it suits them!
It is mostly full of people aged over 40 and seems more like an elderly resort.
In summary we were heavily disappointed in the service we received throughout our stay and would not recommend this place to anyone! We are sad to leave a bad review but we would have wanted to know the true experience of staying here before we booked. I suspect the firm will reply with their standardised review reply below this saying how sorry they are for my bad review, but this is only because it is public rather than wanting to sort...
Read moreReception/Staff - reception area clean & modern. Staff welcoming & helpful. Room - bedroom area clean - but a bit minimalist on space to hang clothes or other personal items but we managed. Bed - Although the mattress comfortable, personally I wasn't very keen on the pillows , one was the size of a large ish sofa cushion and the other long and flat . couldn't get comfortable kept moving them about , probably the worst nights sleep I've had in a hotel. Bath room/ Shower. clean - but the shower flooded the whole bathroom floor , we could actually ring out our bath mat , health and safety risks of falling if unsteady on your feet. Tea & Coffee in the room- never enough for more than one coffee each person per day. We ended up buying our own coffee sachets , so we had enough for a coffee first thing in the mornings and late afternoons when went up from the pool. Their coffee machine coffee was very small & frothy and offen out of order in the pool bar. Main Restaurant - staff excellent so friendly. Breakfast great, lunch great, personally I struggled to find anything I really fancied in way of a hot meal. They posted an Indian food night which I was looking forward to , hmm a dish of plain bland white rice and flavour less chicken curry, no breads or poppadom ect . The chicken had bits of grissel in which put me off eating so I stuck to having salads due to lack of alternative.. we also noticed more than once one particular member of kitchen staff kept using the same tongs to handle cooked and uncooked chicken on the griddle. Pool Area excellent kept very clean.. day time entertainment good..staff excellent.. snacks hot food ok if you like burgers chips ect , but the only option for veggies was warm plain cauliflower bits . All ran out very quickly so every man for themselves lol . But you can use the restaurant. Sunbeds nice, probably need more umbrellas for couples and singles high season. Perhaps June isn't regarded as high season or they will have more put out if asked, but we always managed to get a sunbed. Drinks - we were all-inclusive - this has to by far the very worst hotel I've ever stayed in for cocktails, I completely understand that unless you pay extra for a premium drinks package you just get local spirits . But to be told you can have tequila sunrise without the sunrise then they poured it out from a pre made up container it tasted like very watery warm orange squash , not drinkable alcohol ? how would you know if it's pre made , that's a joke.. we asked for rum and coke. I was almost sick. It contained what looked like lumpy congealed cellulite floating around in Coca-Cola. Absolutely disgusting. If they're unable to provide decent alternative then perhaps they shouldn't offer any cocktails on their all-inclusive drinks list. Management you need to get on top of this issue they are basic foundations of good customer service . Evening Entertainment - we thought was excellent.. you do have to sit where everyone has been sitting in their swimwear during the day, but lots of smaller hotels do due to space..no alternative in bad weather the seats were wet ! ... Entertainment team were great at getting everyone involved up and dancing. Down side no late drinking or relaxing outside or in after 11.30 pm . We were told to finish our drinks because they were closing. Perhaps they could change their second restaurant into an evening bar for those who don't want to go back to their rooms at 11.30 ...
Would we revisit. No . All staff were excellent and work incredibly hard they are a credit to company.. Management need to seriously look into issues , shame because this hotel has the potential...
Read moreNot bad. Not great. 4 start rating but should be a 3.||Good points - |Reception staff very helpful.|Overall clean enough. |Rooms freshened up daily.|Enough food selection for all tastes. ||Room had a few issues. Stiff door which was not great for an 81 year old. Shower was leaking at the top of the head which sprayed all over the roof and dripped onto you - initially thought it was the shower above leaking onto us 🤢 but the head isn’t connected properly. The bathroom also floods every time you shower as the glass shower screen is too short to contain the water from getting everywhere. I want to save the environment but towels needed changed daily as you had to dry the bathroom down after use. Balcony light wasn’t working. Reported but never dealt with. Towels had some stains. Balcony is also solid wall about 4 foot high so if you sit in the balcony you just see wall. I’ve been to Spain many times and had never had this. All are either constructed of poles or glass so you can at least look down into the complex. |I could deal with those things but customer service from some was not great. Young staff were lovely, older ones not so much. |I found Ricard quite rude in the restaurant and made me feel like I was a child getting told off. Firstly he made a rude remark to my grandmother snapping at her “wait!” |And a few minutes later he said to me “you should not have to do this” pointing at my drink (small coke). I was confused thinking I had to order, instead of help myself and said “why”. |He then said because “you’re not allowed with your wrist band, we have to provide you water, not that! I don’t make the rules it’s policy” and stormed off leaving me very red faced. |I accept that it was my fault that I had not realised I shouldn’t have had juice (the sign was above the beer tap so I assumed like in most hotels you would pay for alcohol) but the way he addressed me was shocking. Spoke to me like I was a naughty child. Being a teacher myself I wouldn’t use that tone with teenagers let alone adults. |Alberto on the other hand was informing another guest that they also shouldn’t have taken juice - again she hadn’t known. But he did this politely, got down to face level and was very discreet and kind about it. ||Second staff member to be rude was Juan. My gran got ill and I asked reception about taking up some bread and jam to her - which they were completely fine with. |Tomas in the restaurant also offered to help me gather things and couldn’t have been more helpful. |30 seconds later Juan was snapping at me saying “no no no, you can’t take this” and was not even willing to listen as to why I had a tray with a plate on it and he was trying to grab this out my hand. When I tried to explain my gran was ill and could not leave the room, he was not interested in listening and tutted, shook his head and rolled his eyes. (At this point my gran had a lot of covid symptoms so infecting the dining room seemed unfair). ||The young staff members in this restaurant are fantastic - Basil also lovely and a lady (Pila I think her name was) - also very friendly and kind. Maybe Alberto, Tomas or the young ones in general could teach the older employees some customer service skills and general manners.||Not a hotel we...
