Location: this hotel is situated at the far end of Alcudia and it can be a 15 min walk to get to the 'strip' (Av. Pere Mas i Reus) or the beach. It's nice if you want a quiet holiday as it's out of the way, there is a local supermarket (Eroski) nearby which sells everything you need, and I can recommend the Panord bakery for breakfast or lunch. We didn't have food at the hotel, so cannot comment on it, but it did seem pricey, which is why we didn't eat there. ||Atmosphere: quiet, good if you like it, but there's no entertainment at all for either adults or children, no music round the pool. There's a real melting pot of nationalities that stay here, and it certainly does not feel like 'Brits abroad', everyone is generally respectful of each other. Reception were always pleasant and understanding. They have an offer whereby you can pay €10 and then for the entirety of your stay you are welcome to borrow items and toys for the beach and pool, which we loved. It meant we didn't have to spend a small fortune buying everything, and we weren't contributing to landfill at the end of our holiday when we needed to dispose of stuff. It even included things like armbands for kids and I even saw an inflatable seat for babies. We took things like a parasol, buckets and spades, there were a few cool boxes too so you could take a picnic to the beach (word of warning, do not buy any goods or services from traders on the beach, you can be prosecuted by the police for doing so and patrols are regular).||Room: we had a two bed apartment (which was great as it meant our toddler could have her own room so we could have a wind down at the end of the evening without disturbing her). Our apartment is one of the old style, fine and clean enough, but showing its age and missing things like basic cooking utensils (we bought a fish slice from Eroski). But it is a fully equipped apartment, ours even had a dishwasher, as well as a washing machine, iron and hairdryer.|The balcony was huge, but it did have the problem that the exhausts for the air conditioning units were on the balcony. You couldn't sit outside and enjoy the balcony when they were on. Also, our air conditioning units were only partly working; luckily the one in our daughter's room worked fine, our bedroom was intermittent, and the living room was broken. |We had a TV in both the living room and main bedroom, and we took our Fire TV stick to plug in to the TV. There's a few English TV channels on the main TV.|We were here for 10 days and the apartment was cleaned once during the holiday.||The pool: it's not the same as in the photo, the walkway has been removed, and nearly half of the pool has been replaced by patio to accommodate sunbeds. We never struggled to get a sunbed, at this time of year the hotel is fairly quiet. Pool is open 11am-7pm. The pool is about 1.5m deep, with a couple of ladders for getting in and out, plus a shallower bit and a ramp for children and people with mobility issues. There is a poolside bar that sells drinks and crisps, but it's not open...
Read moreWe visited in August 2024, 2 adults with 2 children for 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom apartment. Prior to visiting we had some reservations due to some of the negative reviews. I thought I’d write this review to address some of these.||Overall|Great family holiday in a nice apart-hotel. There were a mixture of holiday makers and apartment owners using the facilities. The owners we spoke to were very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel for a quiet family holiday and it was good value for money. ||Hotel website images/condition|The official website images are out of date compared to the current facilities. The pool layout is slightly different and some of the communal areas have changed. There are some areas requiring maintenance e.g showers not working, pool mosaic tiling but these are minor things. Overall the place is very clean, gardens/pool are maintained and we loved spending two weeks here. ||The Pool|The pool layout has been modified so it’s about 1/4 smaller than the website pictures but it is still of a decent size and the removal of the “walkway” across the pool is an improvement. It was never too busy to enjoy a swim or playing with kids. There is a children’s pool and a shallow end in the main pool, so plenty of places for young children to play. Never an issue getting a sun lounger during our visit during peak season in August! ||Pool opening times|We were concerned by the 11am pool opening times before travelling. This seemed very late. In reality, during our stay, the pool was open 10am to 7pm and a life guard was present between 11am and 7pm. Although the pool was closed outside these hours, one gate remained open and people were using the pool outside normal hours which didn’t cause any problems and the hotel didn’t object.||Rooms|Sounds like due to the introduction of new management, there is a programme to update the apartments over a period. You may get a more modern one or, like us, get one of the more old fashioned apartments. The room was clean, well equipped and very comfortable and spacious. Where there were minor problems, they were dealt with promptly by the reception staff. ||Distance to beach/port/old town|It is walkable to the beach (20 mins), port (30 mins) but I’d recommend a bus or taxi for the port or old town if doing it regularly or if it’s very hot. The Mallorcab app is best for taxi bookings and is basically like Uber to make the booking but you pay the driver with cash or card. Reception will also book a taxi. Getting a taxi from a taxi rank is a nightmare during busy periods. You cannot book a taxi from a taxi rank on the app so I’d recommend walking round the corner and booking one. ||Room servicing|This is an apart-hotel so is serviced like one. Apartments cleaned once per week with new towels and bedding. You deal with your own rubbish and recycling - bin/recycling areas around the hotel exterior. ||Food/restaurants|Can’t comment on this as we cooked in the apartment or ate...
Read moreWe had a comfortable 9-night stay at Ona Garden Lago as a family of five, staying in a 2-bedroom penthouse apartment on the 6th floor. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful, and the apartment itself was clean, spacious, and well-suited for families. We really appreciated the utility area with a washing machine — a huge plus when travelling with kids. One of the highlights was the two-storey balcony, with a spiral staircase leading up to the rooftop — a fun extra space! The beds were comfortable, and I generally slept well throughout the stay.
There were a few drawbacks though. The apartment is located right next to a swamp, and despite taking precautions, we were all bitten quite a lot by mosquitoes. Also, there was no soundproofing — while I wasn’t too bothered, my husband and daughter found the sounds of people running down the corridor and moving about in nearby apartments frustrating at times. Most guests were fairly quiet when returning at night, but if you're sensitive to noise, it’s worth bearing in mind or bring ear plugs.
Housekeeping was minimal: sheets, towels, and bins were changed once during our 9-night stay, which didn’t really feel enough. Next time, I’d bring a few extra towels. The kitchen was also much smaller than expected and not particularly well equipped — no chopping board, for example, and we found a bread knife in the bottom of the dishwasher on the third day, but there were no other knives— so if you plan on cooking, you might need to bring a few basics. We ended up keeping things simple with sandwiches and easy meals like beans on toast.
On the positive side, there’s a brilliant Eroski supermarket almost directly opposite the apartments, making it really easy to pick up groceries. It's worth noting that they had kitchen knives for sale almost the first thing you see through the door, so they must have a lot of requests for them! There's also a lovely bakery next door, perfect for coffee and breakfast in the mornings.
Some parts of the apartment were a bit run down. For instance, a shelf in our wardrobe fell down twice. The staff were quick to send someone to fix it, but it was more of a temporary fix than a proper repair.
Overall, for the price, I would probably stay again — it made a great base for exploring northern Mallorca, which we loved. That said, it’s not somewhere I’d rush back to, as it needed more self-management than I’d ideally...
