This was my second stay at the hotel but definitely my last. On the positive side, it's as central as you can get. Step outside the door and you're within walking distance of everything. There is also a very friendly and helpful young man who works there. Can't remember his name but he's from Brazil. Very approachable and knowledgeable about the region. This time I was a solo traveller, spending a few days to get some sun. I was given a single, rather depressing room: 208. View of a wall. All that's OK since I wasn't going to spend much time in the room anyway. However, the noise was horrendous. High ceilings and wooden floors are not a good combination. The people above me were walking around with shoes on: thud, thud, thud. You could literally hear everything, even when the man was on the phone. When people in the next room came in late the noise was so loud it woke me up. It's as if they were in my room. The acoustics are really bad because the building is so old and there is zero sound proofing. Secondly breakfast was supposed to finish at 10.30. I went down at 10.15 and was told I could have breakfast, accepting what might ever be left. None of the tables had been cleared away even though two people were on reception. It all looked pretty grim. There was no butter, so I asked for some and, as one of the receptionists was on a mobile call, he ran into the dining area, opened a cupboard, got some butter for me and left. It all had the air of manic and reluctant service. Not a good image. Anyway, overall I was glad to leave the hotel. I couldn't have put up with another...
Read moreThe location was great, but then that was it! Where do I start? Firstly, they offer the facilites for the “online check in”, don’t bother, its a pointless exercise as you still have to “check in” upon arrival. The attitude of the receptionist, Jessica, was very poor. She could definitely do with some customer training! Granted, there may of been several people waiting to check in, but she had no sense of order or priority, favouring the nationals to check in ahead of people who had been waiting before, some for up to 40 minutes. My party actually left and returned 2 hours later. You can leave your baggage but it is not in a secure area, it is in the breakfast/lounge room, left out for basically anyone to either interfere with or steal. Finally, the room. Wow! We were warned that the room was small, but this was taking it too far! Half of the bathroom was in the bedroom. To use the toilet was nigh on impossible. My husband could not stand in front of it as the size was the size of a large tile, from wall to shower screen. The toilet roll was behind you as you sat, but you cannot turn to get it. You then had to exit the bathroom to go and wsh your hands on the other side of the room. The sink was tiny and the shelving area around it was too small to put anything on it. There was not enough space at the end of the bed and the wall holding the tv. My hsuband banged his head twice while attempting to navigate that area. Its such a shame as the location is brilliant but the cost is way too high for such a terrible experience. We will not be...
