Not easy to find by car. Narrow streets to say the least. Our route finder was correct although we got lost. We would have been better off parking near the town centre and walking the route first. Definitely best for a small car unless you approach the hotel following the road just inside the city walls and walk the last 60 or so metres..||The street signs/directions to the hotel are not the greatest in the world. The one at the junction of Calle Sta. Catalina and Calle Canónigo Melgares Raya, where the hotel is, was easy to miss coming from the town centre. The front door when viewed from this junction hardly denotes a hotel.||We had not pre-booked the car park but we found an excellent local policeman who showed us where we could park in Calle San Pedro. We left the car there for the duration.||FIRST TIME VISITORS WOULD BE WELL ADVISED COLLECTING A COPY OF THE PLANO DE BAEZA [combined with the same for Ubeda] FROM A LOCAL TOURIST AGENCY AND WALKING THE TOWN BEFORE HEADING INTO THE MAZE THAT IS THE HISTORIC TOWN. ||We found this hotel charming.||Once inside the front door, the building opens up into a former palace house of the XVI century with newer extensions. ||||We had a room at the back of the hotel. Perfect for our needs of somewhere to park our heads at night and we were not disturbed by the very crowded poolside event that we found one night when we returned. Bell ringing tolerance is a necessity to stay here.||||The three “receptionists” that we met during our stay were all welcoming, efficient and free with advice when we asked for it.||The breakfast buffet was extensive with a good variety all run by a lovely lady during our stay. ||We would repeat out stay if we go...
Read moreDespite being rated #1 manage your expectations. Location is very central and walking distance to restaurants and sites is good. If you arrive by car, streets are narrow and you may or may not be able to get all the way in to offload or load luggage easily. Unless you ask in advance, your driver may not know there is a back way to get to hotel and unload luggage. Do not expect porter service either. Service is below average at check-in and helpfulness. In the 6 months I’ve visited 7 cities in Spain, this was the first hotel I encountered nonchalant, unhelpful reception. No welcome, no help with luggage, we had to wait until they turned their attention to us to get proper check in process. ||While the hotel and grounds are charming, from the moment we stepped in to check in, the charm was lost from the front line reception team who, beyond checking our reservation and details, didn’t put any effort to offer any further basic information. |The only two staff members that smiled to greet guests seemed to be the maintenance man and the lady who was in charge of breakfast and was happy to assist. ||Rooms are clean, and simple. |However, our safe did not work, and some other items seemed to need repair or refresh. Breakfast buffet very average. So for what it is advertised as, a top hotel in Baeza versus reality, it’s better to manage and lower your expectations. Many budget or modest hotels have better service. We stayed one night and that was more...
Read moreA beautiful hotel perfectly situated in the heart of the old town and close to the cathedral. Friendly helpful staff; very comfortable rooms; nice pool in the central courtyard; and excellent restaurant (see separate review for Acebuche restaurante). One word of warning and a small gripe. The parking is conveniently located behind and under the hotel; but there are only eight or nine places and they are not all easily accessible. So it might be worth calling the hotel reception in advance to be sure you can get in. And the small gripe is that there are only 8 sun beds around the swimming pool and people are hovering like vultures to grab one when free. I’m sure the management doesn’t want to spoil the aesthetically attractive courtyard by having too many sun beds, but they could manage a few more! Despite this, very happy to highly recommend the hotel. Very very good value: 250 euro for a suite for 2 nights including breakfast...
