I hate to write a negative review, and its my first time doing so but I feel I have to, to WARN other visitors of the scam two receptionists did to a group of us. We stayed here for a week, there was a group of 11 of us, so we booked 2 apartments. At first everything was fine, the maids, handymen, some receptionists and most of the staff were all very friendly and helpful. On our second day, the bathroom in our room began to stink, so we emptied the bin but nothing changed. Then we noticed that the ceiling above the shower had begun to bulge. Eventually this burst and we reported it to reception who sent people up to fix it twice (as it broke again) and then a third time properly after it hit one of us on the head when it burst the third time. The smell was terrible. We hadn't had a bad experience so far aside from the fact that no one collected our towels as promised for 4 days and we had to get our own refills from reception. None of us minded and I would like to preface my warning by saying that we had, throughout our whole trip, a very friendly relationship with the receptionists and had been a very quiet, relaxed group of guests, who were mindful of the rules. The scam happened on our last day. The hotel asks for a €200 cash deposit upon arrival, so €400 for two rooms. On our last day the first room departed at 3am as they were getting earlier flights home, and they attempted to get back their deposit. The receptionist / night porter told them he could only give it to the second group as we held the ONE shared receipt they had given us upon paying at the start. They 1st group texted us saying they hadn't received the deposit and we needed to collect it for them. We were to leave at 7am. We were greeted by the receptionist, Sara who LIED to our faces and summoned the night porter, a shifty looking, dark-haired man with glasses who told us that the money had been given to the other group. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt (hoping that there had been some miscommunication between us and the other group) but we did ask for some kind of proof. All Sara did was write me a note saying that she thought the money had been returned. They had scammed a young group who had worked hard all summer to earn that money and go on this trip. I was so gutted that the two of them would prey on a young group on the very last day of our trip and stain it with their greed. It was such a gross display of dishonesty that we truly couldn't believe it. We tried to call them and to lodge a complaint through Pierre et Vacances but have received no response. (the number for their reception doesn't work). One other thing I would say is for accommodation that markets itself as eco-friendly but doesn't even have recycling bins in the rooms or on-site is fraudulent. We had one bin in our entire 3 bedroom apartment. To sum up - PLEASE IF YOU GO HERE, BEWARE OF SARA AND THE MALE NIGHT PORTER. Make sure you collect your deposit altogether, as unfortunately, there are unpleasant and unscrupulous grown adults...
Read moreWe had a lovely experience here at Portofino. Three friends, a one bedroom apartment that was spacious and clean. We had a double bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. They weren’t the comfiest beds but we only had 4 nights and we aren’t fussy. We had a sea view and balcony and the view was really spectacular. We didn’t get the sun on the balcony until the evening but it wasn’t an issue for us.
The hotel is minutes walk from the beach, with plenty of sunbeds. For 3 sunbeds and parasol we paid €26.50 for the whole day. It’s a beautiful beach with clear blue waters - a little chilly in late April but fine once you’re in! There’s two pool areas at the hotel and we spent a day by the smaller one as we didn’t have small children and didn’t need the children’s pool. It was reasonably quiet at this time of year but could see it being busier in the height of the season. Drinks from the pool bar were nice. We had cocktails and slushies.
We were in the first building at the top, floor 6, but we had access to a lift so no issues with that. We walked up the steps to the pool one day and it nearly killed us off but then we found a lift to the pool area too - thank goodness 😅
Some recommendations in the resort - Fat Sam’s is a fantastic place with lots of choice of food. The staff are lovely! Especially our new friend Liam. We ate here twice and could’ve easily gone again as there’s so much we wanted on the menu. The cafe in the hotel served lovely smoothies and the little ice cream/crepe shop next door was really good too and the friendliest guy serving us ice cream and crepes and iced coffees. The busier bar areas are only a half a mile walk - either across the beach or along the paths. We went to Daniel’s Corner and Coco Bay for drinks. We felt lazy one evening and grabbed a taxi back and it cost us €3.40 😂
We had an Indian at Door To India after hearing recommendations but personally wouldn’t recommend. The food was average, the staff were uninterested and bordered on rude and it was expensive and not worth it.
Very minor points about the room, we had a sewage smell most of the time. Again, we weren’t there often so we didn’t really care but if you are spending more time in the room it might be something you want to get checked out. There’s also only one mirror in the bathroom, no full length mirrors and nowhere else was there a mirror so three girls fighting over the mirror each day was comical! It didn’t affect our stay, we had a great time and we would definitely book to stay again. The staff we came across were always polite and friendly. Thank you...
Read moreIdeally situated accommodation, perfect for accessing shops, bars, beaches and public transport for those wishing to travel further afield. ||The apartments are fairly basic but we had everything we needed. My only complaint is that we never were sure how the hob worked despite asking for help. But other than this no complaints at al. lWe had a one bedroom for three of us. Myself and my husband took the bedroom and left the sofa bed for my daughter. She said it was very comfortable to sleep on. The room was large enough to leave this set up and still use the space around it as a living area.||The balcony is spacious enough for eating a meal on, which we did several times. We were on the fourth floor and had a sea facing view. It was restricted by the buildings in front, but we knew the location and suspected that would be the case so no issues there. ||On arrival, we were given a little cleaning pack with washing up liquid and some cloths, et cetera so had everything we needed to get going before we went to supermarket. ||The bathroom was spacious and well equipped, again it comes with some basic shampoo and body wash, plenty of towels. We were here a week and I think we had the towels replaced twice. There is not a mate service as such, but the apartment is well equipped with a sweeping brush and a mop. ||There was never any issue getting some bed around the pools. Both pools were well used by residence but also not overpopulated even in August which was nice. There was also a sunbathing deck which we never saw anybody use.||Handy hint: there’s a little Ward rats near the left going up to the pool where you can do a wash for €4, takes about 40 minutes and includes detergents, and the balconies are so warm that it at all dried within a couple of hours. I’m delighted to be going home with no washing to be done when I get there.||We didn’t have many dealings with the staff, but everybody we did meet was pleasant and helpful. ||We were able to keep the room on at the end of the visit, it was €60 but we had a really late flight so that...
