We spend the weekend at Hotel Chalet Val de Ruda in Baqueira. I loved the place for the following reasons:||1) Convenience: located next to the ski lifts||2) Atmosphere: the decoration and specially the staff's friendliness made you feel at home. Really charmy place. Very warm living room with a fireplace and bar service.||3) Food and service: menu with a great assortment of local dishes. The quality of the food is supreme. I strongly recommend to stay in the hotel for lunch/dinner. I loved the deer carpaccio (hunt in the same valley) and the "secreto ibérico". Breakfast is abundant and of high quality (you can ask for custom omelettes...), great for a full day of ski.||4) The spa service is fantastic: sauna, steem batch, jacuzzi, cold/hot showers... I didn´t try the massage service, but they have a menu of possibilities to recover from a long day of ski.||5) We could park the car in the garage, which turned out to be very convenient, as it snowed the whole weekend.||||Baqueira is not just the best ski resort in Spain (and in the Pyrenees) but I would say it competes with some of the best in Europe. We got a lot of fresh snow and could do a lot of off-piste skiing. Comparing price and convenience, I'd rather ski here that in the Alps. Val de Ruda is the best option to stay. This was my third time at Val de Ruda. I hope to come again...
Read moreLocation approx 10 mins walk to lift base. Hotel very dusty everywhere, dirty entrance mat and reception carpet. Dried conifer twigs, pine cones and flower arrangements (possibly lavender) on walls in public rooms, corridors and bedrooms - shredding needles and petals on floors. Bedrooms very dusty, bathroom tiling around bath in poor condition, stains on walls - cobwebs, thin walls. I have insect bites on my thigh and arm! Hotel staff always very nice and helpful, the owner showed no interest in the paying guest, normally he was never around. In the alps in my experience and particularly in smaller hotels the owner is always around speaking with the guests. Rooms very noisy from the road and the extremely noisy disco opposite especially at 5.00am.with people departing. The choice and quality of the food at breakfast and dinner was very good, service at dinner was sometimes slow. Drinks overpriced in comparison to other hotels and bars. Expensive spa not free to guests, treatments also expensive but my sports massage...
Read moreAfter reading a number of positive reviews about the hotel, we decided to book it. The location was excellent as it was a 10 minute walk from the gondola. However, that was the only positive. The rooms were very small and shabby. We could hear all the neighbors coming and going. The toilet also didn’t flush properly. The entrance of the hotel was bleak and had an odour of petrol. The main sitting area was packed with children and was more like a games room rather than an inviting siting area (we have children as well). The small bar was never staffed and breakfast was as average as it comes. This was an ok 3 star but not a 4 star hotel. It is...
