Port View City Hotel — Hotel in Colombo

For the price we paid, this hotel was good. ||We stayed here two nights. The room was basic, a double bed and a single (we were a couple so only needed the double bed). The room had a small fridge so we could keep our water cold. It also had air conditioning and a ceiling fan and despite the low hum, it did keep the room very cool. ||The room we stayed in was situated at the back of the hotel which was great as the hotel is nearby to noisy roads so we weren’t disturbed by this noise.||The staff in the hotel were very helpful. They lock the front door of the hotel so you feel safe and secure. If you need to go out / get in, there is a number you’re able to call and they are very quick to respond. We also needed some more toilet roll and they provided this quickly. ||The hotel is situated nearer the top of Colombo so is a little way out from the centre but it is very easy and cheap to get a tuk tuk to the centre (we recommend using Uber). ||The breakfast is very basic - toast, fruit, samosas, cake, squash, tea, coffee. We only had breakfast here one morning. ||The room could have been cleaner. The floor needed a sweep / vacuum, there was also a mark on the floor near the bin. The bed sheet had a small tear in it. We stayed at this hotel between 26-27/11/24 as part of our Sri Lanka tour organized by Kingfisher Sri Lanka Tours. Unfortunately, our experience here fell far below expectations and left us quite disappointed.

The rooms were poorly maintained, and the small, dimly lit bathroom added to the discomfort. While the bathroom had a shower cubicle, there was no hot water despite our repeated requests. To make matters worse, the room couldn’t be locked from the inside, which made sleeping difficult and left us feeling unsafe. The staff couldn’t help us on this!

The quality of the food was terrible, and the breakfast service was underwhelming.

It was especially disheartening as this was the last stop of an otherwise enjoyable tour. Perhaps it was just our bad luck, and others might have a different experience, but this was how it felt to us.

The hotal is okay for a few nights. As some people said already, the location is not great, you will be woken by the muslim prayers. The communication skills of the staff is not great either, we booked an airport transport because we had to leave early in the morning the next day, but it didn't come (even though we asked twice to make sure), the morning staff didn't know anything about the transport either.
