Golden Bay Resort and Restaurant — Hotel in Weligama

We visited Golden Bay Resort and Restaurant just to dine, and what an experience it was! Right in front of the hotel, there's some kind of display of fresh fish and prawns laid on ice – a rare sight, especially along the beach. We decided on the prawns, which were not only incredibly fresh but also priced very reasonably. The taste was outstanding! The fries were another highlight, seasoned with a unique blend of spices that made them especially delicious.

We also tried the Beetroot-Feta "Toast," which was actually served on a lets calle it baguette rather than toast. The dish had a wonderful, Italian-inspired twist, reminiscent of bruschetta – you can tell the owner has spent time in the culinary scene of Italy.

The owner himself and staff were warm and attentive, making sure we felt well taken care of throughout our meal.

This 100+ year old rest house has been tarted up and rebranded 'Heritage Weligama', so we were expecting some improvements. But what a disappointment. The dining room has lots its character (thankfully the old columns remain), the service is painfully slow and the food quality is poor. I had the worst club sandwich ever (dry toast, little filling, tasteless), others had devilled prawns which was a slightly less awful. And it took the best part of an hour for food to appear even though the restaurant was almost empty. ||In the old days you could always rely on the Rest Houses for great rice & curry lunches - I wonder if that is still the case with the new Heritage avatar?||But for Western cuisine I recommend you avoid the Heritage and go 4 kms further onto to Mirissa beach where there are a number of simple open-air cafes which serve simple seafood in a nice open air ambience, with your toes...

It was pleasure to have dinner here. From the outside, it's an unremarkable place among trendy, fashionable restaurants. But we took a chance and it was worth it! The choice of dishes is huge. The menu is 10 pages long. In comparison with other restaurants where the menu consists of just a few items. We were worried that the dishes would take a long time to cook. But they brought them really quickly. Considering that the restaurant most likely doesn't have any preparations. They cut everything and cook the freshest. The portions are big so that two people can eat their fill. Everything is very tasty. The staff is responsive, attentive, and well-mannered. Everything is top notch!
