I recently had an amazing time staying at Hangtime Hostel in Weligama. This hostel truly surpassed my expectations in many ways. From its convenient location to its vibrant atmosphere, it offers a fantastic experience for travelers looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Convenient Location: Hangtime Hostel is perfectly situated in Weligama, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. Whether you want to hit the beach or explore the streets, everything is within easy reach. You'll find shops, restaurants, and public transportation nearby, making your stay hassle-free.
Good Food at Good Prices: The hostel has a restaurant that serves delicious meals at affordable prices. They offer a wide variety of options, from popular international dishes to satisfying meals. Whether you're in the mood for a filling breakfast or a hearty dinner, the hostel's restaurant delivers both great taste and value for money.
Yoga Hall: Hangtime Hostel has a spacious hall where you can relax and enjoy various leisure activities. You can socialize with fellow travelers, play board games, or simply unwind with a good book. The atmosphere in the hall provides a good setting for both relaxation and entertainment, catering to everyone's preferences.
Vibrant Events and Friendly Vibes: One of the best things about Hangtime Hostel is the regular events they organize. These events bring guests together, creating a wonderful sense of community and friendship. Whether it's an open mic night, a karaoke or live music performances, the hostel's lively events create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that adds to the overall experience.
Welcoming and Helpful Staff: The staff at Hangtime Hostel deserves a mention for their friendliness and warm hospitality. From the moment I arrived, they greeted me with a smile and were always ready to assist with any inquiries that I had.
Areas the hostel could grow in is the limited nighttime work space, One small downside of Hangtime Hostel is the lack of dedicated workspace for guests who may need to work during the nighttime. While the hostel offers a comfortable environment for leisure activities, guests requiring a quiet place to work in the evenings might face some difficulty. However, there are nearby cafes or co-working spaces that can serve as suitable alternatives for those needing a productive work environment.
In conclusion, Hangtime Hostel in Weligama is an good choice for travelers seeking convenience, a vibrant atmosphere, good food, and friendly staff. With its central location, ample leisure space, and exciting events, it offers an experience that goes above and beyond. While it could benefit from providing nighttime workspaces, this minor drawback doesn't overshadow the overall positive experience. I recommend Hangtime Hostel for an unforgettable stay...
Read moreUntil yesterday, I’d have not had one bad word to say about Hangtime. The food in the cafe is great, atmosphere really nice and chill and considering I was bed-bound with flu for most of my stay it was the perfect place to feel looked after. We stayed for 5 nights (originally only booked to stay for 3 but stayed longer after I got sick).||However, after our final night we woke up to find that all of the dorms had been broken into and robbed. Upon reporting this to the staff, we were then informed that this was the second robbery in a matter of weeks that had been reported, amounting to around $500 worth of missing money. ||Whilst we accept and appreciate that our possessions are our responsibility and there are lock boxes in the rooms for a reason, had we been informed upon arrival that someone had managed to break into the hostel only 1 week prior, we would have been a lot more vigilant with our possessions. ||We spoke with the owner of the hostel who informed us that even after the previous break in, the guests hadn’t been informed and the code for the dorms had not been changed, meaning no action from management had taken place in response to the break in.||We refused to pay for our final night. Had this not had happened, my review would have been a lot more positive. More needs to be done by management to address the security of the hostel. Stay vigilant at night if you choose...
Read moreI don’t normally stay in hostels but did stay here for one night. The private room was the worst room I’d stayed at in 3 weeks in SriLanka. It wasn’t atrocious but every other room I stayed in was cheaper and nicer. Ie the curtain was half torn down so you couldn’t close it and anyone could see in, the mosquito net had so many holes it wasn’t effective, the bed was a double rather than queen or king size so was too small, the bed sheets were not full size so the mattress was exposed and you couldn’t avoid touching it which felt filthy, the power point is too far from the bed to conveniently charge your phone, the room fan had a dial with 5 speeds but it only actually had two speeds - so slow it didn’t do anything and so fast it made a ton of noise and was annoying. The air conditioner also dript a ton of water inside the room (this was a maintenance issue I’m sure they will fix soon). Overall too many little things that all add up to not a very nice room. It’s like the owners have said ‘it’s backpackers they don’t need much’ and have never actually stayed at another guest house or hotel to see what they are offering is sub standard, especially for the price. That said the restaurant on the roof offers really good meals at fair prices - but you don’t need to stay there to eat there...
