C’est fantastique! For this price-segment it is a very nice hotel with 4 floors, the first two are for the rooms, which are all looking nice, clean and have a big ceiling, some of them with a shared balcony, my own room had its own. The bathrooms and toilets are clean as clean can be and every room has its own. The two owners/managers Remi (a very helpful French who now lives in Sri Lanka most of the year) and his mate Supa who lives in the hotel, too. Especially Supas father I liked the most, a very friendly and respectful man… they all helped me a a lot when I was staying there, especially Remi who always tried to help me out with whatever I needed… which was a lot,… so thx again for that! What I liked best about my stay: the cleanliness, the friendly staff, every floor had their own refrigerator one could freely use and the drink water was included, too. Which usually one has to pay for and often still has a small amount of chlorine in it (my experiences at least) On the third floor was the “yoga-floor” for the daylie session with one of the different instructors. One could even go up to the roof and just sit there and enjoy the panorama view over Welingama. I would love to give 5 stars for everything but two things existed I kinda disliked: First off their was no good coffee to get in house and on Mondays and festival days like New Year’s Eve, the club next door kinda makes the whole hotel to a third dance floor, which is nice when one like to party but not so very nice if you wanna sleep anytime before 6:30 am at the earliest… Remi was cool enough to give me a breakfast for free as compensation but just hitting this New Year’s Eve during my stay, this “very very loud party music through the night” theme is my reasoning for giving not full stars all over. Other than that the location is right in the middle of everything important. 3min to the beach but not directly next to the Main Street so that it is without street sounds in the night, the busstation and main market is 5-10min walking distance .. so yeah.. good location. I very much liked my stay in the Mr. Mango and I can truthfully say that I had a very good experience staying there all over. When or if I ever return to this corner of earth is still open but where I would stay if I return, this is already...
Read moreFirst of all the staff and owner were very polite. The Food in the restaurant is very good and has fair prices! Really loved eating and drinking there. Also the rooftop is a nice location for a restaurant so that was a plus too!
There were two things about the room that were annoying and made our stay uncomfortable. So the first thing we noticed was the smell. The room had a noticeable musty smell, which was difficult to ignore and seemed to permeate the fabrics and clothing so I had to wash my stuff after staying here to get rid of the bad smell. Also it was a bit concerning because I am asthmatic.
The second issue was the loud party that happens every Monday in the building next door to Mr. Mango. At first, we honestly thought the building was shaking or collapsing, until we realized it was the sound system from the bar! The party went on until about 2-3 AM. While they do mention it in the description, it’s only stated in the very last paragraph—unfortunately, we missed that part. So, just a heads-up for future guests to be aware of this!
Many thanks to the staff for their efforts in addressing the issue with the smell and for being overall very friendly and...
Read moreFrom the start, my girlfriend and I loved MrMango Hotel. Rèmi, Suppa, and their family were so welcoming and made our trip to Sri Lanka really special. They helped us organize amazing activities like yoga, whale watching, and diving. They knew all the best local spots and people.
What made our stay unique was how they treated us. We always felt part of their family, joining them for meals and events.
The hotel itself is a gem! Superbly located, spacious, and comfortable. The vibe at MrMango is welcoming and vibrant, thanks to the amazing staff and fellow residents. The sense of community here is strong and very much alive.
The best part? Even after we left for another city, they kept helping us out. We're super thankful to Rèmi, Suppa, and their family. Staying at MrMango wasn't just about having a place to sleep; it was about feeling at home. We totally recommend it if you want a genuine Sri...
