Stayed for one night at the Clarion The Pier hotel in Gothenburg in February.||The hotel is located quite remote from the city centre and it feels like it's very isolated and deserted. Fairly recently opened about 1,5 or 2 years ago, so the interior and amenities are decent and fresh. ||Seems to be purposely built to cater mainly for either employees of or to anyone doing business with the Chinese Car Manufacturer "Geely" who has a huge site right next doors. Also seems to have made an attempt to create a Chinese atmosphere with what is claimed to be a premium Chinese restaurant by the name of "Fei".||Wall-mounted Phillips brand flat screen TV without working casting from Your own device. Very basic number of nordic TV-channels and TV-channels in general, as usual with Choice/"Strawberry" brand hotels, but there were a selection of multiple Chinese TV-channels. WiFi stable and with good signal. ||The interior is basic. Small but OK working desk and chair. Not any stationary in room. Bed is rather small for two persons. Dark and gloomy decoration with a single abstract black painting on the otherwise completely empth wall. ||Basic rather small bathroom with shower not ideal for tall people over 190 cm+ height. Multiple "Rituals..." premium brand wall mounted bottles hand wash, hand & body lotion, and shower gel, conditioner and shampoo from the "Ritual of Jing"-series containing "Sacred" Lotus and Jujuba (sic), perhaps yet another attempt at creating that Chinese atmosphere, nice scent though. ||Completely under-dimensioned breakfast room, not enough seating, very crowded, somewhat limited selection of hot food. ||The self-check in terminal was malfunctioning, so had to wait for the receptionist for a manual check in. Not a smile nor a friendly welcome, receptionist were like a robot and there were no acknowledgement of club membership or the usual special welcome nor honouring of my club tier, also no honouring of special requests such as room far from elevator, high floor, etc.. No complimentary water bottle or kettle in the room. There was a basic (unfortunately quite expensive) mini-bar in the room.||Very inconvenient and remote to get to via public transport, there is a bus & tram stop 10 minutes walk from the hotel with rather scare traffic at times, then a 15 minute ride to/from the city centre. ||Would also like to mention that despite that it was in the coldest part of the winter in month of February it was unusually cold inside for a hotel room and got suspicious about maybe the central heating is purposely down a degree or two to save money? ||In conclusion, yet another very basic Stordalen vanity project, completely soulless and with the very spartan interior and the cold temperature plus the dark decoration and empty sterile walls as well as the hotels very remote location only adds to a feeling of despair. The standard double room is too small and the double bed and shower is rather small and challenging for a couple taller than 190+ cm body height. ||Not enough value for money, would not stay again and would on the basis of all the above not recommend this hotel. ||This was my third reservation with a Nordic Choice/Strawberry-hotel in Gothenburg and I'm sorry to say, but I'm far from impressed and kind of disappointed. Far too expensive for such a basic hotel experience. You can get more value for money at a far better location...
Read moreWe were very concerned when we were arriving at the hotel as it looked like it was in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by old unused wharfs with no visible restaurants nearby… we nearly changed our minds and leave until we met Karen who checked us in. Karen was superb in assuring us that we had made the right choice and then explained in detail to us how to get about, restaurants, and made us feel so welcome. Karen was a delight and as a result we even extended our stay after the first night!||The rooms were very new and were excellent! We had super views and the room was so comfortable!||Transportation to the city was so easy and was a 2 minute walk outside the hotel the free public ferry service operated almost every 10 minutes and takes you across to the city in 5 minutes. A delightful cruise across the bay which was very relaxing and fun. Just be mindful that the last ferry back to the hotel on weekdays is around 6.20pm and that there are no ferries on weekends or public holidays but we heard that there was one that operated apparently 400 metres down the wharf but we never needed that as we left on a public holiday||There is a bus service which was quite frequent and requires an app which was easy to download||The breakfast was not as good as the rest of the hotel and this and the Rooftop Bar experience were the 2 areas that let this wonderful hotel down. Now to breakfast. Why would you put a sign on your buffet promoting that your chef can make you eggs of your choice or Chinese porridge etc when there is never a chef there? I stood there for a good 10 minutes waiting to get some friend eggs and after flagging down a chef in the kitchen I got a grunt from him and waited a other 10 minutes whilst he disappeared into the kitchen to fry me some eggs. He appeared later passing me the fried eggs across the buffet as though he had just done me a big favor! For the next three mornings I avoided the stale greasy hot food selection, which by the way never changed, and the watery scrambled eggs and just stuck to the cold breakfast… so i guess the Chef won in the end and this guest was wrong..||The Rooftop bar was a gem of a location but sadly the 2 kids running it had no idea and we didn’t know whether it was bar service or table service as some tables were being served and some not…. Ordered a beer and a glass of wine. The beer was flat and the fries we ordered were served without tomato sauce or mayonnaise. Had to go back to the bar again to get that as well.. Sadly this could be a great destination bar if they just had the right staff with the right motivation and some music as the views were excellent!||The Chinese Restaurant “Fei” was simply superb. After living in China for over 15 years I could tell that the food served here was 150% authentic in taste. I felt like I was back in China with the first bite! The staff were excellent too as was our waitress Anna! You can tell that this restaurant is run separately from the rest of the hotels Food & Beverage outlets which were a disaster and I would highly recommend you trying this restaurant for a real authentic taste of China. Just one comment for “Fei”, if you charge Kr43 for a bowl of rice, be a bit more generous with the rice, after all this is a staple of Chinese food and costs nothing. ||Thank you to Karen and Anna for making our stay at your hotel an...
Read moreI booked this hotel via Booking.com in April 2025. I paid up front with a non-refundable reservation. The decision to book this particular hotel was due to its wonderful reviews and great views of the river. On the day I was due to arrive 23rd July 2025, I sent a request to the hotel at 13.52 via Booking.com informing them of my check in time being 9pm. I did not receive a response that day. After arriving in Gothenburg Airport at 18.51, I had 2 missed calls from the hotel. On calling them back, I spoke to a very polite staff member called Sharon. She informed me that there was a problem with my room and they didn’t have space for me at that hotel. It was not explained exactly what the problem was with my room. I was told that another hotel (Home Hotel Odin) had been booked for me and I would be sent details for this hotel. I was not told over the phone the name of the hotel, only that it was an apartment and I had been given an upgraded room. I received a text message from Sharon apologising for the inconvenience with the address. I had no problems checking in but this was not the hotel I had booked to stay in. I didn’t get to see the views as Home Hotel Odin is set within a hybrid office space building. The room was hot as no air con and just a small office fan. Couldn’t sleep with window open as it overlooked the atrium/reception area. I do not understand how if I booked and paid for a hotel room months ago, it wasn’t reserved for me. I can only assume that because I booked through Booking.com and not directly, I was a lower priority to the hotel as a guest and as such was bumped when they were full. This was my first time visiting Sweden and it really ruined the...
