With over 30 years hiking in the Alps, Kandersteg is without doubt one of my favourite resorts with the additional attraction of the quite exceptional Blumlisalp hotel. As to be expected the 3rd generation Swiss owners are very efficient, knowledgeable, yet reticent but always around, ready to help. ||The hotel is extremely well run, Rooms are perfect and the cuisine is extraordinary. The set meal with half-board is at 7pm and a fine ‘a la carte’ menu is always available. The four courses for the set meal are quite different each night, always very original, simple in style and very very tasty, ideal after an active day in the mountains. That the food is so wonderful is not surprising, now that I have discovered that the hotelier, Mr Wyss-Wandfluh, is a Revered Master of Swiss chefs – there are only 250 such hotels in all of Switzerland. ||As a very experienced business and family traveller I would without hesitation award this lovely quiet hotel my own five star rating or 10 out of 10 - that is to say it is one of the very best hotels I have ever staying at anywhere. It is ideal for families (I came several times with my young children who loved the wonderful outdoor swimming pool in the village) or for couples or a sole traveller, which I am now. Just for the record I have stayed in several other hotels in Kandersteg over the years and concluded that this hotel is by far the best in the village for a 4 to 7 day stay and I will return.||It offers quite outstanding value and just for the food, it is really worth...
Read moreIf I could give this hotel a million starts I would!! My husband and our families had a phenomenal stay at Hotel Blumlisalp! We came to Kandersteg to get married at Lake Oeschinensee. We had originally booked a different hotel, but they over sold their rooms leaving us without a place to stay. Hotel Blumlisalp was gracious enough to take us and our family in. They even gave us the same rate, which meant a lot as we were on a very strict budget. They even had an extra room for a last minute guest attending our wedding. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Our favorite part of our stay was the friendly and knowledgeable staff - Mandy + Marta were our waitresses both evenings for dinner and went above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience. The owners were very hands-on and were there everyday to help answer our questions and provide us excellent service as well. BUT THE BEST PART was the FOOD!!! I had one of the best meals of my life here, and later we found out that the chef is a master chef who has won several awards and is one of the owners. The hotel is a family run business and we got to meet the husband, wife, one of their sons and their dog Fin! I loved the quaint atmosphere and the familial ambience that was present inside this hotel. Overall I highly recommend staying here and experiencing what Hotel Blumlisalp has to offer. I can't wait...
Read moreOur stay here was fine. The hotel was clean and functional. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was a very modest continental breakfast, relatively limited and ran out of some items which were not replenished. We had hoped to use the sauna, but they only switched it on when someone wanted to use it, and since we hadn't known this in advance, we couldn't use it when we wanted to. ||The hotel seems a little tired in the public areas, and little attention is paid to the overall aesthetic (lots of stuff seemed to be stored in public areas, so the whole place had a functional rather than stylish approach. We had a good dinner in the restaurant (the fish and chips pictured above haha). Staff were friendly. ||For this, the price was, we thought, and given other stays on our short trip, relatively poor value for money. Hotels in Switzerland are generally very expensive anyway, but even so to pay over CHF200 for a night...
