According to Taiwan MOENV on 17 July, "Lodging providers shall be prohibited from offering liquid toiletry and bodycare products in single-use packaging with a volume of less than 180 milliliters, and shall be required to provide large-bottle wall-mounted shower products instead. The EPA stated that enterprises will be given a buffer period to deplete their inventory and adjust, with inspections commencing from 1 January 2025. Personal hygiene items such as combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving foam, and shower caps are not to be actively displayed."-- Poor services. It was my first time traveling to Taiwan and was totally unaware of the gov's new go-green initiative. When I found out that no bathroom amenities will be provided upon checking in the hotel, I asked the check-in staff if she could kindly provide me a set of toothbrush and toothpaste as I forgot to bring mine. Then the check-in staff told me that they do not provide such FREE toiletries anymore. In fact, she informed me that if I wanted it I could BUY it from her, followed by showing me a bag of personal hygiene items such as combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving foam, shower caps and slippers. I understood that the hotel supported the government's movement of restricting single use lodging supplies. However, such act of selling was truly unfavourable as it sounded like Jasper Young hotel wanted to make some profit from those items used to be inclusive in hotel room fare, on top of the paid room rate. If you are supporting the gov's move, please do it whole-heartedly. "The EPA stresses that the regulation does not entail a complete ban on toiletry products. The reduction of disposable amenities need not compromise the quality of hotel services."I had an unpleasant stay with Jasper Young Hotel with its dirty and sticky room floor. I shifted to another hotel within the same area on the next day. Surprisingly, this hotel with a lot much cheaper room rate compared to Jasper Young, actually provided sets of nice bristle tooth brushes and toothpastes in their bathroom without any requests, they even provided bath salt for a soak. Their room has a better view, and so much cleaner floor with...
Read moreI like this hotel very much. The rooms are big and newly renovated. Bed is very comfortable. Good that shower room, toilet and wash basin are all located separately so that you and partner can use it without waiting on each other. There're 4 free bottles of water replenished each day during room cleaning and toilet amenities and bedroom slippers were replaced each day. Think the cleaning staff forgot to replace amenities on the last day of our stay but it was ok, we don't need them. The cleaning staff and lady hotel manager were very courteous, greeted us each time they saw us but can't say the same for the reception staff who were very mechanical. Although we received notification that the hotel was undergoing renovation prior to our booking, we're ok with that as we expect to be out during those hours. As it rained some days whilst we were there, we came back early and found it to be quiet and could rest without noise disturbance. There's a Japanese styled (naked) hot spring on the 17th floor with a small pool. I went up to take a look but did not use. Although men & women have their own sections, but there doesn't seem to be much restrictions from accidentally stumbling into the other. Perhaps it wasn't opened yet and no staff was stationed there to make sure that it does not happen. I did not eat at the hotel restaurants. But found the western one on the ground floor very popular, quite full most of the time. There's a Michelin bib restaurant Moon Moon Food where we ate twice. Good food, good service and great prices for that quality. But may have to wait a while during peak hours. As for location, within 10mins walk from both Banqiao and Xinpu stations and plenty of buses and convenience stores just outside the hotel. There're many restaurants around the Xinpu station area. There's also a Mega City Mall nearby. I highly recommend this hotel and...
Read moreLet me start by saying that this hotel is NOT suitable for non-Mandarin speaking guests. Staff don't speak English and all the signage throughout the hotel is Mandarin. Our room had so many problems. Biggest one is with the toilet. It's supposed to be automatic, but it never does the right thing. It opens on its own and I fell in several times. There are probably 30 buttons, all with Chinese characters and no English explanation. Beds were comfortable but the pillows were awful. The layout is terrible with an unnecessary modular style that converts the bathroom into part of the entrance. But one of the sliding doors jammed and was stuck for half the time we were staying there. The housekeeping is very friendly and helpful, but also a little bit overbearing. Front desk staff were not friendly at all unwilling to show any appreciation for our patronage. The spa/pool area has the worst hours I've ever seen and it's virtually impossible to use it as it's only open for a few hours in the morning and the evening while being closed for most of the day. The location is really bad too as there aren't many restaurants and it's very close to a children's school. When school finishes there are so many children around, blocking the streets that it will actually jam the street that taxis pick up the guests. I have to strongly recommend that you find a different...
