All in all I highly recommend the Long-Men-Ke-Zhan B&B for the following reasons:||1. Reasonable rates||2. Comfortable rooms||3. Excellent location with beautiful views day and night and in a close vicinity to the famous “old street” (5min walk)||4. Accommodating staff||5. Yum-yum Taiwanese homely breakfast||6. Many more hidden treasures to explore by yourselves||||It was a family/friend outing (2 Taiwanese/1 Chinese/1 Italian) to Jiufen in early July and we stayed one night (2 rooms). The staff, Mr. Lyu, spared us the troubles of commuting and picked us up from Ruifang train station directly. Mr. Lyu then explained to us the local scenic sites and attractions in great detail and ensured all our questions/concerns were addressed. We chartered a taxi in the afternoon and toured numerous local attractions (Jinguashi, Golden Waterfalls, museums, scenic sites by the coastal highway such as The 13 Layers Ruins, Houton cat village, etc.) based on the staff’s recommendations and it was a hoot and a half! ||||At night, we brought back lots of local delicacies (Taiwan fried chicken鹹酥雞; deep-fried squids炸魷魚) from Ruifang night market, along with several bottles of Taiwan Beer and drinks from local tea-shops and the famous chain convenient stores, 7-11 (Taiwan Beer is the best!). The staff joined us for some chitchat and we had a great time. Juifen old street closed early (~7:30pm) but it did not stop us from having fun at LongMen B&B.||||The next morning we were even more pleasingly surprised by the delicious breakfast and Espresso the lady staff (boss lady!) meticulously prepared. We left the dining room with our bellies full and enjoyed some chitchats with other lodgers (mostly families from mainland China).||||The staff dropped us off at the Taoyuan international airport for reasonable price (transportation arrangement needed in advance with the staff) and I am pretty sure I’ll be back whenever I can and will not even hesitate a second to choose again the LongMen B&B to get our grooves on!|| ||Address:No. 110, Lunding Road, Ruifang District, New Taipei City||Tel:+886-2-24966036,...
Read moreI found this homestay mostly by accident and it's one that we are thankful for because it left a great impression on my family and I and my personal favourite is the homely breakfast. No fancy continental buffet breakfast spread but expect a spread you know is genuine and cooked from the heart by the lady boss with ingredients grown by her brother. (Think sweet potatoes fresh from the ground, washed and cooked of course). All this served up in a communal dining hall where we have a great view of Jiufen and had opportunities to meet fellow lodgers. ||||The rooms are comfortable for me, with special quilts that the lady boss take pride in, but the room gets chilly at night in winter so wear socks to bed! However towards the end of our 2 nights stay, the toilet begun to stink up real bad and that blemished our opinion of the place. ||||Thoughtful gesture by the owners was to provide transport for lodgers (one-way up only) via taxis which was a mildly dangerous but swift journey, coming down you can always request for a taxi or take a public bus down at your own cost.||||You can quickly reach Jiufen Old Street from the place but coming back up is a mild hike that one must take easy. For late dinners, we had to go back down to Ruifang because Jiufen Old Street closes...
Read moreAside from the rather long stairs up (with our luggage) the room was alright. Staff switched on dehumidifier before our arrival. Check in was smooth. Breakfast was porridge with condiments with bread and coffee.
We also signed up for a guided night tour (400/pax) to understand the gold mining history of jiufen. Very informative. Guide Xiao Xian was very knowledgable and passionate. Highly recommended for anyone interested to understand the past of jiu fen.
Upon check out as we were having difficulties with uber. Eventually we managed to get a booking for a taxi (coming from ruifang) and with the help of the staff. But there was delay in the process and we wished the staff on duty could be more helpful and proactive (despite us raising our concerns and issues with the app earlier, she went on with the room cleaning and attended us later when we re approached her again for help) anyway would suggest the owner can probably put up some notice on the reception on taxi service (we can speak Chinese but it would be easier especially for people who can’t / don’t...
