English + Korean review / 영어 + 한국어 리뷰 Summary: I liked this teahouse! It is not bustling and is spacious and relaxing. The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly (speak English and Japanese); the teas are delicious (they have some desserts to go with the tea); the space is beautifully decorated and has awesome views outside; there are nice postcards and tea goods for sale; there is a nice gallery downstairs; the experience at the teahouse was great overall. They accept card payments. I’m a solo traveller and this was my first visit to Jiufen Old Street. The main street was so busy, full of people everywhere, and I was glad to find some rest inside the teahouse. For solo travellers, the cost might be a little more expensive than what you might expect - NTD100 service fee along with the tea leaves that range from NTD600 to NTD1000 (from what I remember). Nonetheless, if you’re okay with spending roughly NTD1000 on tea and some sweets, I would definitely recommend visiting. If you happened to order too much tea to finish in one go, they’ll pack the left-over tea leaves for you in their own pretty zip lock bag. There are English- and Japanese-speaking staff, who are all super friendly and helpful. When I ordered the tea, one of the staff went over how to drink the tea, how long to brew, etc. There was a coal fire for water pot. I ordered one of the green-coloured oolong teas and it was delicious. The staff also offered a free sample cup of another type of tea - I forgot to ask what it was, but it was orange in colour, had strong aroma and was so good (think I should have bought it)! The staff lady also gave me an envelope that with the map of the old street and the brief history printed on it – it had a beautiful postcard inside it (they sell lots of pretty postcards in the teahouse – I bought two of them, think they were NTD30 each). You can take home any leftover tea leaves.

Let's start with the tea. This was alright. You get what you pay for. The snacks are alright. I recommend the cheesecake.
Now let's get to the service.
When you're brought to your table, you're given the menu to choose your tea and snacks.
They didn't know that we can speak Chinese, hence upon choosing the tea and snacks, the staff snuck in comments to her peers about how long we're taking to order. But that's fine, that's not something we'd allow to ruin our day so easily.
What pissed me off, was how she explained how to carry out the tea ceremony.
She gave us a very fast, vague, general explanation of how to pour the tea. And her choice of words were very impolite. Before ordering snacks, she asked, "You're only ordering the tea?" In an extremely incredulous manner.
You have to understand that the price we have to pay to enter and purchase tea is not cheap. We are paying not just for the tea but for the service and attitude of the staff and to better understand tea culture.
To them, it might be a daily arduous activity where they constantly serve foreign tourists that don't understand their language. But to tourists, we're only staying for a few days, we don't know when we can travel to Jiufen again.
Please be considerate, we're paying for the service, I'd appreciate it if you would treat other customers with the basic respect and patience that they're paying for.
Perhaps a bit more patience will bring you an even more prosperous business to your doorstep.
By the way, although the service wasn't the best, I have to say that the scenery was amazing. The fog and greenery were...
Read moreAbsolutely surreal and soulful — the kind of place that makes you slow down and savor the moment. Nestled in the heart of Jiufen Old Street, this historic teahouse offers not just tea, but a full sensory experience. Prices are on the higher side (Oolong tea from 800–1600 NTD), and there’s a 120 NTD service fee per person — but it’s completely worth it for the view, ambience, and service. What I loved most? The tea ceremony itself. A staff member patiently walked me through every step: warming the set, measuring the leaves, brewing techniques, and timing. Then, they let me try it all myself. You really feel part of the tradition, not just a guest. They give you a full 30g of tea, divided into 6 neat portions — we used just 1, and they kindly packed the rest for us to take home. The included snack add-ons paired perfectly with the tea. The table comes with an instruction card and a lovely postcard by a local artist ( i think the owner) — such thoughtful touches. Whether you’re a tea lover or just here for the view and tranquility, Jiufen Teahouse is a gem you...
