Hiked up here for the sunset. It took about 35min from the foot of the stairs and the temperature was perfect in the morning around 5.30 with a light jacket on. There were no people on top when we got there and only once the sun had already risen did three more people show up. It's a light walk up the stairs and if you turn around every once in a while, you'll get a nice view of Jiufen. On top, you get a great 360 degrees view on the surrounding villages, peaks and Keelung. While the sunrise itself wasn't particularly more beautiful than in other places, it was more than worth getting up early to see a veil of gold slowly...

Read moreThis is the start of the hike if you wish to go. Bring plenty of water and a towel and snacks. Its just steps to the top so not difficult. Theres some rest stops. At the time of this review, july 2019 there was construction on some rest areas and at the top which inhibited some views.
Guides said it takes an hour to go up, but I did it in 30. Also good idea to do it not in the heat of the day. Shade is limited.
