Nice location with a view of the ocean. Order on the first level and you get a table number to take upstairs to your spot on the 2nd or 3rd floor while you wait. Tables are assigned which is kind of a bummer, even though we were there on a Tuesday and it was slow, but we got a good spot by the window. You have to order at least a drink per person to sit inside. Ice cream doesn't count (we tried!).
We had a waffle with black tea (tea is part of the set, you can't just get a waffle) and tried the Hakka ground tea, which was surprisingly super good! It's a blend of ground sesame seeds, peanuts, mung and red beans, and probably some other stuff. The consistency makes you think it must have some milk in it, but it's actually just the ground stuff and hot water. The beans give it a nice natural sweetness (there's no sugar in it either). Read moreThe food here is absolutely incredible. They should give this cafe a Michelin star for their Hakka Braised Pork dish. I got this and my husband got the Taiwanese hot dog and we shared a waffle with the matcha topping. We were so so impressed with the meal it was absolutely incredible. I got the Tie Guan Yin milk tea aka charcoal Oolong which is my favorite and theirs did not disappoint. My husband tried the peach oolong cold and unsweetened and it was light and refreshing. The views from the restaurant are lovely, and it’s on a more quiet side of the Juifen old streets. The only downside is the hours are kind of weird, but when we arrived at 11:30 am it was quiet and peaceful, no noise from tourists, and barely anyone showed up until 12:30. If you order food and drinks you can stay for 90mins. This is a MUST eat at for a...
Read moreWow, this place was a welcomed break from the other eateries in Jiufen. We ordered the vegetarian set meal and everything was clean and healthy. The philosophy of the owners is to preserve natural flavours and nutrients and it showed in the quality of the food.
The lotus root in yuzu was an incredible palate cleanser and the braised kaofu (gluten cubes) with wood ear fungus, mushrooms, radish, and edamame was light but tasty. Of course, the meal came with multigrain rice.
For tea, you can choose the options that come with the set meal or upgrade to a different tea or coffee. Aside from famous local teas like Oriental Beauty 東方美人, the Hakka leicha is definitely worth a try. It is a ground tea made from 18 nuts and grains from Taiwan—delicious!
The space is very nice too, with seating on the second and third level and...
