This place is beautiful, but I could not imagine finding this place without a local guide being hired, which we did - or planning this through a tourism group.

It's a car/bus ride up, about 2 hours or so, from the base of the mountain. Another hour or so from Taipei. It's deep up into the mountains, with steep but BEAUTIFULl views and winding turns that would make any fellow invidual with car sickness - miserable. I survived, though. You can, too. I would recommend something for motion sickness, though.

At the top sits the city. Before you enter, you'll be greeted with a sign that says "beware pickpockters." Jiufen is filled with little alley ways weaving through with various shops and food stands. Smoothie stands, potatoes on a stick, gift shops. There are tons of small stops. Themed Totoro and Spirited away merchandise. You will see the famous ocarina man playing or making his instruments for you. It's actually pretty cool to witness. Once you get towards the end of the trail, you will finally get to the Instagram worthy Spirited Away tea house. With everyone and their mom huddled in the stairways for the perfect moment to take the picture.

We didn't experience a wait at the actual teahouse, but we did luck out and get the last table. It was outside, which came with the consquence of blistering heat and the humidity of September. WE CAME THIS FAR for tea, so we shall drink it, lol. Plus, it was nice to sit. The view of the mountains, the beach in the distance - was indeed worth just sitting and staring at. Humans are amazing..building teahouses this frickin' high up in the middle of nowhere. Really! 🤔

Like most instagramable places, the tea was mid, and the side pastry set was mid. The experience overall was once in a lifetime.

Would I do it again? "No." Will I cherish the memories I made with friends and my boyfriend that day? 100%.

We did not pay an entrance fee. Where closed toe shoes. Be somewhat cautious when eating some of the food. If you look at your feet while walking at some point, you will see clusters of dead roaches on...

Jiufen, nestled in the lush mountains of northern Taiwan, is a picturesque town steeped in history and tradition. Its origins trace back to the Qing Dynasty when it was a bustling gold mining town, and remnants of its rich past are still visible today.

The narrow, meandering streets of Jiufen are a testament to its old-world charm, inviting visitors to wander through a maze of traditional Taiwanese architecture adorned with red lanterns, intricate woodwork, and nostalgic signage. Each corner reveals something new, from tiny tea houses serving fragrant local brews to street vendors offering a tantalizing array of snacks like taro balls, pineapple cakes, and steamed buns.

The heart of Jiufen is its famous Old Street, a lively thoroughfare lined with shops selling everything from handicrafts and souvenirs to local specialties like tea leaves and handmade sweets. The bustling atmosphere, filled with the chatter of vendors and the aroma of freshly cooked delicacies, immerses visitors in the vibrant pulse of Taiwanese culture.

For food enthusiasts, Jiufen is a paradise. Traditional Taiwanese street food delights the senses with its diverse flavors and textures, from savory stews and noodle dishes to sweet treats like shaved ice desserts and mochi. The town’s seafood offerings are particularly renowned, with fresh catches from the nearby coastal waters expertly prepared in a variety of mouthwatering dishes.

One of Jiufen’s most iconic experiences is ascending to its hilltop viewpoint, offering a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains, the deep blue sea, and the quaint rooftops of the town below. As the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the landscape, visitors can savor the tranquil beauty of Taiwan’s natural scenery.

Overall, Jiufen is a captivating blend of tradition and modernity, where ancient customs coexist harmoniously with contemporary delights. Whether you’re a history buff, a food lover, or simply seeking a tranquil escape surrounded by natural beauty, Jiufen promises a memorable and...

This Jiufen old street is the must go place for everyone who travel to Taiwan, Taipei. Even the transportation to this place from the middle of Taipei city is quite take time and need to take a bus that a bit headache but it’s still worth to go. The view and the food is very good but if you go in weekends, the people will be very crowned from tourist but the walkway is not that wide too much. The food that I really love is the peanut ice cream with coriander. Some people will be bias at first because it’s quite weird but if you have a chance to try it in the cold weather, it’s very great. The shark fishball also good and not fishy.
