Star ximen hotel — Hotel in Taipei

I know the saying goes “you get what you paid for” but i think cleanliness is not something money can buy. This hotel has full of dust! The common stuff that clients usually hold onto like remote or bedside table! I’ve tried cleaning again using my wipes and my suspicions are correct (see photo below). I immediately felt itchy the moment i laid in bed but since i rarely even there,i just kept silent. It was days after my trip that i’ve noticed i already had some red itchy patches on my legs. The staffs were not approachable at all. They did not even let me use the bathroom in that floor just for me to have a quick change of clothes since i had a long flight and i understand that their check in time is 3pm. And their hotel is freakin hard to locate, even on google maps! The moment you type “star ximen hotel”, some chinese name popped out. So how am i going to understand if what im typing is correct? I ended up getting lost several times, so i just type the stores next to them like “crocs” or “amba” coz its easier to find. 🤦♀️When i checked out early in the morning, the staff did not bother to check the room, which led me to think if there were cameras inside my room, like, what if i steal something there? i know trust is not the issue here. 🤔And it always bothers me every time i go shower since the ceiling had some cracks! I was being so paranoid because of the recent earthquake and they did not even reassure me or tell me that is probably nothing. Do not book this...

I am never inclined to write reviews, good or bad, but I felt extremely compelled to write this review to give this disclaimer so people can decide for themselves.||For the positives, the location is great and the room is spacious. The cleaning staff are hardworking and kind. They provide umbrellas to borrow if needed and the borrowing system is based on trust or their memory of which guests took which umbrellas. The shower pressure is completely fine.||For the negatives, the facilities in general are very dated. The floors and carpeting are quite old, and the wallpaper is peeling off in certain places. The shower drained extremely slowly so I was standing in a puddle to shower. The worst of all was the mattresses. I am generally not too picky but for some reason I could not find a comfortable spot. I think it may be because the mattresses are so old that they’ve lost any support which resulted in very little good sleep for me. This really colored my whole trip quite negatively and gave me endless back pain during the day and lots of frustration at night.||If you are the type of person who can sleep anywhere on anything, then this is an excellent budget...

We want to stay their 2 nights but moved out again after 20 minutes. The building looks already very old from the outside. One of the elevator smelles like urine(which is okay for me as European🤣). This is already a preparation for what is to come. We lived in the 10th floor. It's smelly in the hallway and there are some plastic sheets lying around which makes it look like their is some renovation going on. Our Hotel room looked super old and very depressing. Their was mold on the ceiling, the walls and the bathroom(especially the shower has lot of mold). Some lights didn't work and their were cable for a lamp coming out the ceiling. The carpet looked like it wasn't cleaned for ages and we didn't even want to take off the shoes because it looks so dirty. The door couldn't be locked aswell so we would not feel to safe their in the night because the whole atmosphere is a bit shady. The staff is very friendly and nice but I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there. It looks like the building will be demolished soon and the owner trys to earn some last bucks.
