Our early check-in was done so fast and room upgraded, so we immediately feel like we were at home. The room is set up like a one-bedroom suite without bedroom door. The amenity (coffee, tea, etc.) is well equipped and with very nice setting. We like that there is separate living/work area, and with a big work desk and some chairs / sofa. The second day we noticed some water leaking in the bathroom floor, so we ended up moving to the next room, same layout but smaller. Breakfast is served in its restaurant near the lobby, and includes Chinese/Taiwanese, Western, and Japanese styles of food. The bread section is full of goodies. There are sweet dumplings/buns with different fillings and in different shapes and colors, and the one (black sesame) in mushroom shape looks so real and tempting. There is an omelet section too. Next to the restaurant there is a French bakery shop that offers guests free coffee, tea, and cookies till 10:30 AM; a nice place just to relax a bit, people watching, etc. Overall, my husband and I felt the hotel has a very strong team work, communications between teams are fast and effective. The staff, from front desk, repair, cleaning, breakfast, bellhop/doorman, to bakery, all very helpful, courteous, and friendly. People could tell the building has some years, however, the room is clean (clean twice a day based on the brochure) and spacious enough. There are some improvements we think can be done for our second room (comparing to our first room which is wheelchair accessible), the mattress seemed much used and thus sagging, the desk chair was making some noises I guessed due to long usage too. We didn't visit its roof-top garden or the gym, next time we will. We'll also need to try the afternoon tea at its...
Read moreMy husband (American) and I (Taiwanese) have been staying with Riviera for the last 18 years and my husband however had been staying here for over 20 years whenever he goes to Taipei for business trip from USA. Due to Covid we were not able to travel back to Taiwan and have not been to the hotel for the last 3 years.
This time checking in (2023/2/23), we were pretty excited going back. Sure enough staffs did not fail in their excellent service and attention to details. We can feel they genuinely happy to see us return. Best of all, seeing the old staffs from bellmen, front desks staffs and waitress in the restaurant make us realize how we took it so for granted.
We truly appreciate that the owner did not lay off any employee and insisted on staying open during Covid even at times when there was only 1 guest in the whole hotel (told by the employees). Not only we received warm welcome, we also feel the staffs appreciate our return as they express their gratitude.
3 years alot has changed, we notice some hotels and businesses were closed in the area. Riviera seem to strive for the better. We could see they did some update to the rooms.
True, Riviera isn't as modern and/or high tech like other hotels, neither do they considered to be cheap option. However we keep coming back for the their outstanding service. Riviera had it's charm and style that represents Taiwan and the hospitality is known for. For a hotel have over 75% employees have been working there for over 15 years, it says alot about their corporate culture. We love the area that is close to a famous night market and all kinds of restaurants. It's a foodies paradise. Everyone works there genuinely care about their guests. We cannot recommend...
Read moreBooked the Deluxe Double Room for two nights after winning the Lucky Land accommodation voucher by the Taiwan Tourism administration. We were looking for a hotel in the Zhongshan district and The Riviera Hotel was included in the list where the vouchers can be used.
Inquired via email and phone for last minute bookings. They were responsive in both platforms. The staff at the reception area were also helpful and polite.
We also appreciated the tiny yet thoughtful details that the hotel provided: a yoga mat, packets of drip coffee, and a sewing kit. Like the other reviews said, it was an old hotel but you're not going to notice it as the surroundings are clean and well-kept.
Just a heads up though that even though you don't request for it, the cleaning team will clean and organize your room. We were surprised that our room was organized and clean when we got back on our second day. It was not a problem for us but if you prefer the privacy then I suggest you hang the Do not disturb sign by the door.
Location is also great as there are lots of food places and grocery shops nearby. Maji Square is also just a...
