Iris hotel .. don't stay there !! ||||Was supposed to stay at a friend before heading to zanzibar but turned out he was coming back from Arusha only a day after me ! Well I had to find a quick fix and was looking for one place close to the ferry. Sadly for me I chose Iris .. reception, warmth 0 , professionalism 0 ! ||I arrived around 8pm , the hallway was empty and nobody at the reception desk except the doorman. ||||The night reception lady's English was around the basics which I actually appreciated because finding someone who speaks English in Tanzania is very difficult ! ||||The "doorman" or whatever he does just looks at you coming with 2 heavy luggages and only "pretends to help you" when you are heading towards the elevator . He gets in the room and turns on everything and stays approximately 15 mins to change channels and see what works or it (good or bad ? After a 12h trip that's the last thing I needed) He then checks if everything in the room is clean which means they haven't checked before and only do when the guest is here ||||My bathroom was very VERY dirty, there were no lights in the hallway ! All dark and shallow . The bath towel provided is very tough and old ||- Wifi doesn't work in the breakfast restaurant ||- Breakfast buffet is left to the basic , tomatoes cucumber , eggs (choose between omelet and Spanish , it is blend so you will have to add salt) , milk; one juice of the day , one type of cornflakes , Milky hot and cold , tea , pineapple and watermelon and a type of pasta salad (which was really good and the only thing I appreciated during my stay) ||||The lady at the reception desk in the morning however was very helpful and we could both understand each other since she spoke good English ! ||I would never...

The 'chefs curtain' and tablecloths all look really tired and to be honest, unclean - we really weren't expecting much either! They dished up a better breakfast on safari! No hot water until last morning so cold showers. No batteries in the TV remote and only one towel provided along with no mosquito nets.|We were bothered by a knock on the door and a telephone call from a 'guest' who claimed that he thought his friend from Morocco was in this room. He asked if we were coming down to dinner anyway?? Second night there was someone else outside our door upon our return claiming to have gotten the wrong room. Obviously we did not feel too safe and can't understand why there were quite a few people on the corridors talking loudly - they coud not all have been guests so why let them in? Area is not the best to walk around in so we couldn't wait to check...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStaff at reception were great. However anyone planning on stay here, be aware that; *There are no mosquito nets in the rooms (not in mine anyway) and there are a lot of mosquitos. *They also have WiFi, but there was no access to WiFi from my room. *I had to sit on the stairs in the hallway to make online calls and access the internet. *While sitting on said stairs, I saw rats running up and down the stairs in close proximity to the kitchen. *The room service phone and TV in my room room did not work. I had to reception and ask for my window to be closed, because it was broken And there seemed to be what looked like semen on my sheets. *When I told the lovely man at reception, he did not seemed surprised and said house keeping was the issue. *The second sheet I was given new sheets which were also dirty and the 3rd a huge tear in it. *4th one was clean, but by that time I had, had enough. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Find another place to stay. Please check reviews before you...
