Location: Not straightforward in the given pin location, you have to go around the area to see it. Not all airport transport knows it, unless you book at the hotel reception. Its located at a very local area, you gotta be good with directions as its a maze going to and from the hotel. Its a nice experience to blend, most locals are polite and they don't really care about you. Its beside a mosque and near to the local market. Going back at night is safe but of course be vigilant, no lamp post on some of the alleys. Oh btw, its 10-15 mins walk going to the beach / port side.
Reception and Staff: We arrived at 4am and check out at 3am, they have a standby reception to help you out, just ensure to advise them. Most of the staff are polite and helpful which i appreciate. They prefer cash payment, but they have credit card machine.
Room: We got a double bed room, with ensuite bathroom, and yes there is bidet! Hot shower is also available but no toiletries, just a handsoap amd towels for two. You will receive complimentary bottled waters but no kettle or cup or free coffee/tea inside the room. Fridge is available in case you want to stock up. Bed is comfy with mosquito nets.
Others: The hotel is tidy, basic and you will say a budget accomodation, they offer breakfast a simple one but good enough (toast, egg, fruits, juice, coffee/tea) at the rooftop area. The building itself is simply decorated, no elevators, we were actually at the 3rd floor, decent wifi and they use old school keys and i must say guests are all respectful and quiet.
Lastly, its worth the price, and i can recommend this hotel if your simple and into budget type of...
Read moreThis friendly little hotel deserves the name "island" - it's a quiet, clean refuge in the bustle that is Stonetown. Originally we planned to stay only for one night, but the place was so nice we decided to stay for four nights in total. The room was comfortable and charming in the old typically arab house with high ceilings, colourful windows and rooftop terrace. Nothing fancy, but totally adequate and safe. The breakfast is typical for a Tanzanian Hotel in this price category. Some fruits, toast and eggs, coffee, tea and juice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is perfectly located right in the old city centre, but tucked away a little in a quiet neighborhood. Short ways to the ferry port and to all the touristic sites in Stonetown. Overall: A good homebase to explore Stonetown from for a few days. Not fancy but more comfortable than the average cheap guest house and very affordable. Great...
Read moreWe booked on booking.com, but the room we got was not the one we booked. The hotel was sold out and because we had prebooked the had placed us in a small room stinking because of the molt. Really bad for your lungs, you can not even breathe normal. The hotel was fully booked as I told and the lady from the reception did nothing at all. The manager would have come but has not shown up at all. It was already evening and we could not go anywhere else. The lady at the reception only looked the other way when we talked to her and she said hardly anything back, just that she can not do anything. Dispite the money, do not go here! On the pictures it looks nice but in reality it is totally different, the hotel is worn out, unsafe wirings in the bathroom and the service is very bad! They have not offered a...
